De-stressing/ taking your mind off work
I started a new job in March which has been mentally exhausting to say the least. Its emotionally draining and I have problem where I am incessantly thinking about work when I'm not at work. What are some things you do to take your mind off things when you have a stressful job???

Re: De-stressing/ taking your mind off work
I've always tried to do something physical. I used to do MMA for years, but then I had a bunch of arm and shoulder surgeries, so I couldn't do that any more.
Now, I make things either in my wood shop, or with my welder.
I find that doing something physical that needs concentration, but not a whole lot of intellectual thought, distracts me from what's stressing me.
ETA... oh yeah, and wine helps, too....

Re: De-stressing/ taking your mind off work
I stopped taking work home with me, or thinking about it on my off hours. I don't even discuss it with DH. Nothing good ever came of it, even when I worked while on vacation. That's when I made the decision that once I walk out the door, work stops.

Definitely reading. I read on my commute, while I'm in bed, putting the baby to sleep, any idle time I have, I read. Such a good escape!

TV usually helps me. If not, then I play games on my phone.

I forgot about that. Playing Cookie Jam on my phone usually relaxes me and takes my mind off stress

For me, it's not just about taking my mind off work (also relationship stuff).
My natural tendency is to play Candy Crush and watch TV (at the same time). If I push myself, then I go for long walks (either around the neighborhood or a trail at the park).

Re: De-stressing/ taking your mind off work
I listen to very heavy music on my way home.. believe it or not, that destresses me a lot. Or, i drink wine, watch cheesy tv and plot the evil destruction of the person who is causing me such stress

Joined a gym I love, reading, traveling and planning travels, making weekend plans, etc. I truly dislike my office and have had to come up with ways to get through it. Good luck!!

I would read. Get into a really good book/author. It would take me away. And I couldn't wait to pick up and read next chapter.

Working out and reading have always helped me. Also making a constant effort NOT to check email.

I love to get lost in a good book and have you ever tried the adult coloring books?? I love to color it takes my mind off everything
I agree with others about working out or the foot spa places. I love to go there and relax and its not expensive $28 for someone to rub my legs and feet is life changing lol
