Staycation ideas for tomorrow
Somehow we are at the end of summer vacation and DH and I go back to work next week. We'd like to do something tomorrow with the girls (ages 4.5 and 1.5). We're thinking of being a little ambitious/spontaneous. Any thoughts on something that would be an all-day adventure? It can absolutely be off the island. We don't want to do something that we could squeeze in a few hours of typical weekend afternoon. I may even be able to convince DH of an overnight if we can get low last-minute deals! Tia!

We did Sesame Place last week. DD is 5 and had a BLAST. It's not too far, but far enough that it feels like a getaway.

Yes, we're going next week. I figure a lot of people are back at school already so crowds should be low.
We're also doing children's museum of the east end. I figure we can try to find some other things to do while we're out there, wineries or farms or something.
We also love the Bronx zoo.

Re: Staycation ideas for tomorrow
The Dutchess county fair is happening right now. I go every year and the kids love it. From animals to gardens to sales of handmade things to rides to carnival food... we always have a blast. It's a bit of a ride, but admission is free for kids under 12 (we spend that $ on milk shakes and food). I'm going tomorrow with the kids!
If you can stay upstate, an overnight in lake George is an adventure too. We did the Saratoga horse races nearby.

silly question: my dd isn'treally into sesame street. But she loves kiddie rides. Will Sesame Place be appropriate if she's not really into the theme?

Totally! My DD is not a huge fan of Sesame Street. I think the only one she cared about was Elmo. But, it's still super fun.

Re: Staycation ideas for tomorrow
Thanks everyone. We almost did a night in Lancaster, mystic, or the dutchess county fair, but DH was having some issues being so spontaneous! We are going to spend the day at the NYC botanical gardens. I missed chihuly in 2006 and am psyched to see the installation. DH also agreed that even if we are done early, we will stay out for dinner so i feel like I'm on vacation!

The food is actually decent at the gardens... but Arthur avenue is blocks away. Visit for dinner!
