Christmas Season Must Do's
What are some fun things you are doing with the kids for the Christmas season?
We are doing the polar express, we go to the tree lighting in our town, we drive around and see the nicely decorated houses, we want to take the kids to nyc for the first time this year.
What other fun things do you do?

Christmas Season Must Do's
We'll go see Santa.
This may be a dumb question, but what do people do with their kids in the city around Christmastime besides Rockefeller center? I used to spend every single day in the city and would see people lugging their kids and strollers and kitchen sinks through Penn and I was always like "WHERE are they going?" WHAT is worth this hassle?

Maybe it's not a hassle for them ;)
There are shows to see, decorations, trees, lovely windows, santa at Macy's, brunches, river cruises, etc.!

I can't deal with the crowds in nyc around the holidays. Nothing is worth that to me. I'd love to take her to some of this stuff but it would not be enjoyable for us. I could just see DH now. And me with my rage and impatience flaring. And DD bitchingg and moaning how she's tired, she's cold, she can't walk anymore.... Sadly for us it's not worth the stress. Too many crowds. And I don't do lines. I physically can't wait on a line fir anything. I have been known to drop all my shit and walk out of a store if a line is too long

Re: Christmas Season Must Do's
We go pick out a Xmas tree We go to botanical garden train show This year, we will go to polar express We do Santa pics in the mall Bake cookies, do a gingerbread house Decorate our home Go to a cookie party
No city for us. I lived and worked in the city. Honestly not worth it with small kids for Christmas. We do go a lot in the year to Central Park, museums, battery park, etc. 42 street and Rockefeller center is just as not my thing. We have done it... maybe it’s something you had to do once. Honestly, those super packed areas make me think of easy terrorism targets.

Of course there are things to do/see...but with the crowds, lines, weather, kids, strollers, naps...accomplishing 2 of those things would be worth a trophy in my world!

Re: Christmas Season Must Do's
This is my favorite time of the year!
We start the year off by buying a new decoration for either inside or outside. We are starting to run out of room for more haha.
We bake a ridiculous amount of cookies. We give them to neighbors, firemen and police officers. We also make some for the security guards at my DHs office.
My kids pick a nursing home and find out how many people would like some visitors. We make enough “presents” for them (cards, crafts and flowers) and then we stay and have dinner with them.
We do a lot of local things with our church. Last year we worked a soup kitchen, and we help fill a huge truck to deliver to one of the shelters. They also have a kiddie concert that is my favorite!
We are doing polar express, and ice skating. And we go visit Santa at Hershey Park and go through sweet lights.
Christmas Eve we wear matching pjs and go around looking at lights.
I can’t wait to take them to the city, I think our youngest needs to be at least 3 before we attempt that with all 6 of us lol.

Re: Christmas Season Must Do's
We have a few traditions and add new each year.
We did the tree at Rock Center once and my little guy almost had a breakdown because of the crowd so we will wait awhile before doing that again.
We usually do:
Gingerbread houses
See Santa
Make Cookies
Decorate the Tree
Our town has something cool where Santa rides around on a Thursday night so we wait for him
The town next to us has an awesome fire truck parade
We drive around and look at lights (a house in our town has their lights synced to music)
ETA - We do the train show at the Botanical Garden too
