Disappointed in a few Suffolk and town of Brookhaven races but overall I'm definitely happy.

Overall, a good day for the Dems. Pleasantly surprised to see two trans-gender politicians win their position. It's a start. Chat Icon

Definitely glad to see Christie out of office!

Oyster Bay Republicans did a lot of things that taint their win for me. They deleted any comments they didn't agree with off their facebook posts, they blocked people they didn't agree with, and they definitely used Trump's playbook of tapping into people's fears of immigrants and minorities. Those are the things I actually saw happening. There were also a lot of accusation about threatening town employees and behind the scenes activity.

Other than TOBAY, I'm excited about the Dem wins last night. Curran was a happy surprise. When I feel asleep she was behind, and then I woke up to the victory speech.

So disappointed in TOBAY. It needed a major house cleaning. Unfortunately, the corruption and poor leadership will continue.

Overall though, I'm thrilled with the results across the country. Dems showed up yesterday! This is what winning looks like. This is what democracy looks like. Every single vote counts!

It has given me renewed hope. Trump is not America.

Oy, we are stuck with DeBlasio for another 4 years.

There are more homeless than ever all over the streets. The 34th street 1-2-3 station is a haven, a very smelly haven at that. Never mind all that roam thru and outside of Penn.

I don't live on LI- but the two candidates for town council where I live are literally separated by ONE vote. I will remember this going forward- I had every intention of voting myself but DH had a 12 hour day and I know he was wiped. But I waited for him and we went together and are really glad we did. The one ahead is our choice, the other is a jackass. Hoping the absentee votes go in our guy's favor.

One vote really does matter!

That's a great story!

Can you either post or FM me your town so I can point to it as an example? I have a lot of non voters in my circle plus I'd like to share with my students. Thanks!

I felt like puking all day. I read a lot of the comments on NY1 and other local news outlets on FB. So many are handing in their papers and getting tfoh in a hurry. We have 6 years to go. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I carry my mace in my hand at almost all times when on the train/bus/in the city and sometimes in my own neighborhood at night.

I was hoping for a change here. Being in the city is awful these days!

I am anxious to see what Change Gillen will make. I am hoping it isn't just more of the same. The political red tape and nonsense on LI is ridiculous!

Our town supervisor race 2 years ago came down to a 2 vote margin after the absentee ballots were counted. It was insane!

Definitely so important to vote in local elections.

ETA - I was happy with the results of our local elections. Surprised in some places based on the info I was seeing on social media but, a lot of people who don't use Facebook seem to have voted in our area.

I fear Laura Curran will be a disappointment - at the very least her transition team is a huge fail.

I'm happy to report that our preferred candidate, who had a one vote lead, won by 40 votes when the absentee ballots were counted. DH and I are so glad- his opponent has been on the town board for years and doesn't do what his constituents want, and trolls people on FB, especially women. He didn't deserve to be there.
