Holiday Boutique Money?
This is something where the child brings in an envelope of cash and shops for parents, siblings, etc. How much money do you send them with? No idea what they sell and how much there is to choose from, but I think the gifts are priced from $1 to $10 each. And I can say DD1 has $1 to spend on sister, $1 to spend on Mom... But I can picture my 5 year old DD being upset with some poor volunteer if she doesn't have the money to buy something she picks out, lol.

My advice is to limit who she is buying for. Just do siblings, parents and maybe grandparents. If there is too many to buy for the kids get confused. Also, even though it says $1 to $10 any of the "decent" gifts are going to be in the $4 range. The $1 gifts are like pencils or a magnets. I would also suggest that you allow her to buy one thing for herself. That is when the kids have the most meltdowns, when they want something for themselves and the teachers say no because the parents didn't put it on the list.

$5-He needs to buy for his little sister and a small thing for himself.
I'll take him shopping outside of school to pick out something for his dad.

I send in $20 - split up between mom, dad, 2 grandmas and 2 grandpas. I was so impressed with what she picked out last year. Each item really fit for the person she was buying for.

Our items are all $1 so I send in $1 per family member.
Otherwise I'd send in a check and then let the PTA write the dollar amount in (and send it home with DD).

I always give $20 to spend. There's not much for only $1. They buy for me, dad and sister. Sometimes they will buy for grandma too

I send in $10. He buys for just me & DH. He has 4 siblings, and 4 grandparents. It would just be too much.

Last year I gave me son $30 and he came back with a little change. I'll probably give him 30-40 this year. He buys for his little brother, me and DH, and grandma and grandpa.

Thanks! She only spent about $20 for 5 items, but I had given her more. Everyone got toys, lol. I wish I could have watched her shop.

Omg. My twins came home so much crap. One of them bought a ball that said sister. I have 3 boys (so they have no sisters). He said he liked the ball.
They bought a dinosaur for their grandmother oh yes and an uncle pen. By the way, they have no uncles. Only aunts. But of course nothing with aunt on them.

2 years ago DD bought a mug that said Best Aunt ever... I said oh you bought for Aunt so and so? She goes, no that is for you.
LOL
Apparently the people who are supposed to be helping them pick gifts don't always do such a great job!

Holiday Boutique Money?
Ours is tomorrow. I volunteered to help so hopefully I'm there when they come through.
The first year DS 1 did really well but, last year, he missed the first day because he was sick and well, pickings were slim. Everyone got women's gloves lol(but, like I said, ours is just a $1).

I will tell you, I have volunteered a lot at the holiday boutique, and sometimes the kids are hell bent on getting something that doesn't even apply to their family! Like the Brother pen when they have no brothers.
I send my DD with $20 and most of it is junk. She got her brother a sports pennant. He has ZERO interest in sports...none whatsoever. I think he would've liked a pen more LOL

I sent my dd in with $25... and she only spent $15 (on 5 gifts) so she did pretty good... And she was spot on with most of what she bought... I think she really did put thought into it... Cant wait to see mine! In the end, it doesn't really matter, and they are just excited to give what they picked out which is sweet

This is so true! I volunteered just the other day for the first time and some of these kids could not be persuaded otherwise! Personally, I tried really hard to ask if they knew what the person liked that they were buying for. "Does Dad have a favorite sport/team?" or "Does mommy like to wear jewelry?" etc. And then there's some that just stare you down when you ask if they want help lol!

I sent my DD in with $35 and she came home with $22. She did buy very thoughtful items for each person. I was pleasantly surprised.

I volunteered yesterday and felt the same!!!
I think there should be a limit on the amount of people that kids should shop for too - especially the younger ones. Ours - everything is $1. And some people send their kids in with a list of like 20 people. It gets a little difficult, especially when they insist they don't need help! They only get 20 minutes too. DS 1's teacher sent them in in shifts so that each kid had an adult with them - but, they did ok for the most part.

Yeah, my DD came home with a keychain for her brother, which was sweet. Only problem was it was a Jewish star...and we are not Jewish lol
