American Girl Cafe
I want to take my daughter to the American Girl Cafe for her birthday. What are some things we must do? We want her to have the full experience. We want to eat at the cafe too. Should we buy a doll before we go or when we get there? Should they both get their hair done? I looked online but they offer so much and I have no idea what the best activities are. Thanks!

American Girl Cafe
We took our girls to the store first. Let them pick out a doll. Then I had a resveration at the cafe dornthe birthday package. The girls had their dolls, put the, in the attached high chair. They come over with tiaras and goody bag of some stuff for the birthday girls. It also includes a big cake.

Re: American Girl Cafe
Yes this was similar to our experience. Buy the doll first because at the cafe, they will give you a high chair and a doll dish so the doll can sit with you. Also you have to reserve the "birthday" experience to get the tiara (made of paper) and the cake.
Side note: I thought the food at the cafe was abysmal, practically inedible. However the cake was really big and actually tasty and they let you take it home.
Getting the hair done, whether for the doll or the child, is expensive and even if you have an appointment, be prepared to wait on a line - at least that was the situation for us, however it was a crowded December weekend so perhaps now things run more quickly and smoothly.
All in all, my daughter had an amazing time.
ETA: You can buy the doll at the store that day - you don't have to buy it before you get to the store. I just meant to buy it before you go to the cafe.

Re: American Girl Cafe
Definitely book the party package, you can do it right online now.
I think the food there is pretty good, as do many of the friends we have went with!
I would do the doll and girl hair appointments. If your daughter doesn't have her ears pierced, you could do that also.
Also, book the personal shopper. It's free, you get a small gift, and you can pay and sit in their dedicated area.

Do you have any idea how much the ear piercing is? I want to get both my girls ears pierced (4 and 6) and ithink they would love this! I find the site so hard to navigate.

I think the price pops up when you select that option on the site (doll and me piercing)

Small gift? We did this yesterday and didn't get anything and I our shopper wasn't that great...i had heard great things about the personal shopper but we were a little dissapointed.
The cafe is great and so is the hair salon. DD got her hair done there yesterday and her dolls. it was too cute.

Oh weird, we have been a few times and used the personal shopper, and always got gifts. Maybe they were out, or don't do it anymore. T-shirt, posters, wrapped cookies, things like that. I had DD's birthday party there and all the girls got gifts from the personal shopper (aside from the goody bags provided during the party)
