Back numbness years after epidural
Dd1 is now 5. Her birth (labored, followed by emergency cesarian) was somewhat complicated. The anesthesiologist has a hard time giving me the epidural because she was so high, I couldn’t round my back. In retrospect after having dd2 and having a basis of comparison, i realized things were likely not done correctly with dd1. Anyways ever since I had dd1, I’ve had waves of numbness or pins and needles in one section of my mid-back. It’s gotten much more frequent now in the past few weeks. It happens several times a day. Has anyone had this numbness after so long? Ever seen a doctor about it? I have an appt with a neurologist for migraines in a few weeks and I’ll bring it up then but I’m curious about others’ experiences.

My dd is 5 too and I had numbness for a few years but it's all gone now. And it wasn't how you explained. It was just when I touched the area it felt slightly numb. I would definitely see a dr about it. I've heard of long lasting issues from the epidural but just incase I would bring it up.

Re: Back numbness years after epidural
Strange that it should be getting worse. Did you do any heavy lifting/bending recently? Usually numbness and tingling from an epidural would have been long resolved by now. Sounds like a good question for your neurologist.

Back numbness years after epidural
I had a numb lower back/butt after my c section but that completely resolved after about 6 months. After my first epidural I could feel the exact spot where it had been for probably about the same amount of time but again, it went away.

Could you have a pinched nerve there and are attributing it to the epi. I pinched a nerve in my arm Into my shoulder and it would go numb.

Re: Back numbness years after epidural
I had this too and I saw my chiropractor that treated me during my pregnancy. Turns out , this is very common and I did in fact have a pinched nerve. After just a few sessions, the numbness subsided.

Re: Back numbness years after epidural
I never thought of a pinched nerve bc it’s so similar to the sensation I felt right after giving birth, but it could definitely be that.

Back numbness years after epidural
I would think it would be a pinched nerve? I had a spinal with the c section and never had pain at the site
