Lynbrook. We are so happy here. FM for any info.
Same- we moved here in 2016 from Queens and it's a really nice area. No actual experience with the schools as of yet, but they were a major deciding factor for us. We also wanted to be relatively close to Queens as all our family is there and walking distance to the LIRR.
ETA: Your commute would be a BREEZE!

Maybe carle place. I have a friend who lives there and grew up there. I feel like she always talks about the town feeling you are looking for.

Farmingdale. It’s sort of a forgotten town but has a nice small town Main Street with tons of restaurants. Easy commute to the city if needed and close to all highways.
Diverse district. While not one of the ones that people talk about as best of it’s still a great district. Good programs etc.
House range from 300s and up. Higher end over near the golf course.
My very good friend lives here and she is very happy. I wish my community was more like Farmingdale.
We are Massapequa Park but Farmingdale Schools and we border So. Farming dale. We loooove our area. Farmingdales Main Street has so many good restaurants and things to do. It's centrally located and easy access to so many highways and shopping. We are super happy with this area. While the school district may not be rated top 10 they have a lot of activities .The familys are very involved and so far everyone we have encountered is down to earth and super friendly.
Another vote for Farmingdale! DH and I moved here 5 years ago and live in South Farmingdale by the high school. We are zoned to Woodward Parkway elementary (there are 4 elementary schools in the district). Our block has a lot of young families on it and our neighbors are all such nice, friendly, down-to-earth people. The downtown Main Street area is super nice - tons of shops, restaurants, etc. School district is solid and due to the size, offers a tremendous variety of programs/classes. Athletics are top notch and the music program is fantastic. Taxes are reasonable (for LI) and there is a range of house prices. One of our neighbors just listed their house and its listed at $529K - beautiful and totally move in ready, down to the paint! I think taxes are about 10K.

Re: Moving...where do I go???
Hard to suggest without a budget and not knowing exactly what you don't like about your town now. Where does your husband work and how far is he willing to commute? How far are you willing to commute? Are you willing to live in or near the town your work in?

Re: Moving...where do I go???
I grew up in Merrick and now live in Bellmore. We have one of the best school districts around. Both towns have a "main street" to walk in, easy access to highways and LIRR. Each have a range of houses and prices. I love it in both of these towns.
I do agree with other posters that tour commute to and from Suffolk might be horribly long.
Happy house hunting!

Moving...where do I go???
We moved to Greenlawn in Harborfields school district and couldn’t be happier. Greenlawn has a tiny main Street, but we are 3 miles from Huntington Village in one direction and 3 miles to Northport Village in the other direction.

OMG, yes! Too funny. I'm like 4 houses away! I was totally tempted to go to the open house on Saturday but we are in no position to go through with buying/selling/moving. Its a fantastic house and the owners did so many improvements (and they have great taste!)
