100 Day of school
The 100th day of school is Friday for my son in Kindergarten and he is not looking forward to it. He does not want to dress up as an old man. He keeps telling me he is not going, I plan to not make a big deal out of it. He has gym that day so I was just going to put him in sweat pants and a flannel shirt or vest. I have many friends who dressed up their kids with glasses with bushy eye brows attached, grey hair and sent them in with canes. Would it be horrible if I don't go that far? I want him to still have fun and not be uncomfortable.

100 Day of school
DD1 is in K and we haven't been told anything about dressing up yet and I'm so happy. I don't like the idea at all and my DD1 loves to participate in everything. If she didn't want to do it, I'd just let her not dress up. All of our dress up days seem to be optional.

100 Day of school
My DS's are in 1st & Pre-K, and their school is celebrating this on Thursday. We received notes home about it from both of the boys teachers. If they were really excited to do it, I would come up with something, but thankfully they are not, so they are going in their regular uniforms (this is Catholic school). Personally, and please don't flame me lol, I find the whole, "dressing up as a 100 year old" weird.

Thank you! I find it weird too. I dont mind the bring in 100 items bag or make a picture with 100 items but I think dressing up is not necessary. Its also Spirit week which is annoying, sorry but my son does not have any crazy socks and its winter so who is going to see them. Friday is PS I love you day or wear purple since hes in Kindergarten I think he doesn't have to worry about that day unless he is suppose to be an old man dressed in a purple shirt.

We will be doing the bring in 100 items for my younger DS. I hear you, I find all of the dress up days so annoying. I am already thinking about what they are going to wear for Dr. Seuss birthday on March 2. 2 weeks ago was Catholic Schools week, and one day was, "dress up as your favorite literary character day". Is this principal for real? I wouldn't stress it, IME, at least in my school, dress up days are optional, and only some of the students participate.

Re: 100 Day of school
Its annoying and just another wasteful thing I had to spend money on. And I feel like its more of a burden to the parents who are creatively challenged like me. I have zero time and patience and to be honest, what is it even really teaching them? At least 100 items at least teaches them about counting and visualizing what 100 is. Nobody even really remembers or cares what they wear that day so I wouldn't sweat it. Thank God in 2nd grade there has been no mention of any 100 days projects

just do whatever you and he feel comfortable doing. you don't have to go nuts. all these dress up days get out of hand. DS is in first grade, and he has to make a shirt with 100 of something on it. we made a caterpillar out of 100 small pom-poms (he googled, and saw the idea so we went with it) we'll see how it all goes down next week lol

I definitely wouldn't push it. If you have a sweater or button down he's willing to wear that's more than enough imo. My kindergartener will be very excited about dressing up but she's also super opinionated so who knows what she'll end up in.
I do think it's cute and might open their eyes if you talk about some of the oldest people in their lives and whether or not they're near 100. Dd's class did 50s theme stuff at the 50 day mark including dressing up in 50s wear. That was definitely a waste bc they have no concept of the 50s as a time period.

PS I Love You Day was on Feb. 9th (this past Friday). Most of my school was dressed in purple that day. As for the 100th Day, I would say the majority do NOT dress up as 100 year olds.

Re: 100 Day of school
Yeah. Our little guy dressed up as an old man last year. Wore a white button down shirt, bow tie, one of my beige cardigans, fake eyebrows and mustache, powder in his hair glasss with no lens and a cane
And we gotta dress up again this year. What the hell How many different ways can you look old
Party city and get an "older than dirt" shirt?
Annoying And yeah on Halloween we have literary character day. Another waste of money and painful to the non creative types like me. He was the chicka boom boom tree , Esteban the magnificent from day the crayons came home and this year he was buzz boy from the book.
Such bull

That would aggravate me. DD would want to wear her Halloween costume because, ya know, it's um, HALLOWEEN? No way she'd want to dress up in some boring literary character outfit. It's like they are trying to turn them into college student intellectuals when they are in elementary school still. Thank God my school doesn't do that. Lame

100 Day of school
DD is in K and her class just had to make a project with 100 items on it (she did a rainbow out of fruit loops). I know there is a class that has to dress up. (The celebration or whatever you want to call it) is tomorrow. I am so glad that her class didn’t have to dress up for it would’ve been a big waste of time and money for me being she’s home sick and won’t be at school tomorrow.

Yeah they do this because of the people who complain about the fact that they don't celebrate Halloween. So they have to be "PC". I think it's lame!

That argument about Halloween always made me laugh. I mean, Halloween is not a religious holiday like Easter, Christmas etc. I mean 1000s of years ago I am sure it had some religious connotations, but everything did back then. Nowadays it's a day where kids trick or treat and you eat tons of candy and dress up. Period. How do you not "celebrate" Halloween? I mean I don't really "celebrate" Valentine's Day but I don't get offended that DD's class exchanges Valentines and treats. I can understand if people get offended about religious holidays being celebrated in schools, but Halloween? Come on.

Wait a minute. Kids have to dress like old people on the 100th day of school? Am I understanding this correctly?

Yup. Dress up like they’re 100 years old.
To the OP: I’d just do what your DS is comfortable with and not push anything.

For us it was only in 1st grade that she had to dress up like an old person.
In K they had to bring in 100 "things" (I think we did M&M's or something in a bag)
In Pre K we did a picture with 100 skittles making a rainbow.
In 2nd... we haven't had to do anything. Thank the Lord.
It's all work for the parents- not the kids. Running around like an ahole on my lunch break to Target to find all this stuff. And scouring Pintrest for ideas to copy because I don't have a creative bone in my body.
Oh and the worst is Flat Stanley. Now not only do the parents have to do all kinds of work, now you have to enlist a friend or family member to do work for you too.

Not many people live to be 100. Maybe I’d made DD a hat with grass and a tombstone on it.
Too much?

I remember DS had to dress up like that in 1st grade, and he didn't want to do too much. He wore sweat pants that I pulled very high up, and he brought a pill organizer case with him. That was it.

100 Day of school
We don't have to dress up - or do anything - for the 100th day but, my kids wouldn't want to dress up if they did, and my kindergartener would ask to stay home as well.
I would just try to get some clothing that would look like an older person would wear - along with a hat.

100 Day of school
I honestly think some parents put way too much pressure on themselves about this stuff. I can't think of a time I've ever gone out shopping for school project, unless I was specifically told bring in xyz for something. I use what we have and that's as far as it goes. Thank goodness that's the only way I function bc we got the 100 items project today since dd was absent Friday and it's due tomorrow, and of course she has activities after school today. Took us twenty minutes and she did the majority of it herself. She won't let me help even when I want to so her projects are definitely not Pinterest level which is more than fine by me.

I am on my 4th son in Kindergarten, and not one of them wanted to dress us. So I just sent them to school dressed normally and it was fine. There were more than a handful of kids who disnt want or forgot to dress up. They didnt feel left out at all.

100 Day of school
Thanks everyone. I was able to find a flannel shirt on clearance at old navy. Im probably going to put him in sweatpants and the shirt. I want him to be comfortable. I am not pressuring him to have a mustache and I felt the suspenders would bother him especially when he goes to the bathroom. Looking on Facebook I have some friends kids who went all out and my son is not that kid.
