Optimum Vent
Just venting....just switched to Fios from Optimum, unbeknownst to me when you cancel your service with Optimum you are required to pay through your billing cycle, they no longer pro rate your bill. I guess shame on me for not fully understanding the cancellation policy.
I am happy that I no longer have to pay Optimum, still have to pay Fios but I am saving $47 a month , have faster internet less channels but I don't really watch a lot of TV.
I switched because Fios has a double play where you don't have to pay for a phone that I never use.
Lesson Learned if you are going to cancel service make sure you are at the end of your billing cycle.

I cancelled everything except internet. We just stream everything. I'm so happy to just have an $80 bill now. I don't even have Fios in my area yet.

That's weird. According to the wonderful customer service reps at Optimum a voluntary disconnect there will be no pro-rate of the bill. This is stated on page 4 of your bill.

Not sure what the deal is, I didn't read my bill. If it matters, I only had internet service. I got a whooping $9 back.
Fios seems to work well, I have a $39.99 plan, with my own router, so with tax I'm at $42.xx
I use Ooma for phone service for like $4.xx per month.

Maybe it depends if you're still in contract or technically month-to-month.

Re: Optimum Vent
There is a class action suit regarding the cancellation policy. Attire changed it when they bought Opt. but didn't properly notify their customers as per the suit.

The cancelation policy changed when Attire took over. It was in Nov of 2017

I cancelled May 2017 and they did not prorate and would not even discuss it. The company absolutely refused to allow me to speak to someone higher up. I really hope that the money was worth it to them because I will never be their customer again over the way I was treated by them. I would go without tv and internet before I gave them another dime of my money.

We just went through the same thing! When I argued and said we wouldn’t pay it the rep had the nerve to say “I don’t care lady. Do what you want. It’s your credit score not mine.”

That's how I feel, I don't want to pay but I don't want it to go to collections either. They screw you right up to the end.

Re: Optimum Vent
We went through the same thing last year. So infuriating. Our optimum cycle ended on the 7th and we cancelled on the 9th. I refused to pay for the entire month when I only had their service for 2 DAYS!!! I paid them the pro-rated amount (that I calculated) and they ended up sending us to collections.
My hubby ended up paying it because he didn't want any problems.

I found this out the hard way too. Literally switched to Fios on the 2nd day of my billing cycle with Optimum and had to pay a full month's bill for one day of service. Infuriating. I'm just happy I NEVER have to deal with them and their shittty service again. Oh, and I'm saving $80 per month with Fios for MUCH faster internet and TV that doesn't go out every other day.
