Xpost: East Northport and Elwood schools
There's a house we like in East Northport in the Elwood school district. Can anyone provide feedback (good and bad) on this area and school district? Any areas we should avoid? Would you buy in this area and district?
Feel free to FM. Thanks!

Elwood is a very good school district. Pretty small but with an amazing reputation. I would have considered that area however I found the houses are all “newer” like 50s and up and it’s hard to find a house with taxes under 10k.
The northport-east northport district is right next door. Also a great sd but a lot bigger BUT many more houses to choose from and many “older” houses with 5-8k taxes.
You cannot go wrong with either district.
There isn’t a “bad” section of Elwood, worst case would be a house on a main road.

Thanks for the insight! Is there any truth to the rumors that Elwood might be absorbed by a neighboring school district?
And does it offer programs for every kind of learner (special needs to advanced/gifted)?
Thanks again!

I graduated Northport in 1991 and those rumors have been around at least since back then. No one district would be able to absorb the entire Elwood student body so I doubt it would ever happen.

I'm in a neighboring district and I was talking to another mom at my daughter's dance school over the weekend who had 2 older children graduate from Elwood and she made a comment that the districts enrollment is declining every year and that at some point it's going to have to be absorbed by another district. I have no idea what truth there is to her statement, but she was saying how she is so happy her kids had already graduated because she felt that the education had declined so much because of the fact that so few new families are moving into the neighborhood. There is also a less desirable area of Greenlawn that is zoned for Elwood.
East Northport is supposed to be a very good district. Other neighboring districts that are well known are Harborfields and Commack.
