B-12 shot

I recently had bloodwork done and when I followed up on the results with my doctor the nurse said the doctor wanted to schedule me for a B-12 shot.
I did a little research online about side effects, reactions etc but wanted to hear some real life opinions.
If you have had a B-12 shot, did you feel an increase in energy right away?

Was it a 1 time thing or did you go back for several months?

Also, did the actual shot hurt? I read that some people have a lot of muscle soreness afterwards.
TIA!

Re: B-12 shot

My DH had one a few weeks ago. He was VERY sore from it; for a day or two.

He also didn't get an extra ounce of energy from it; he was actually tired. LOL

But I assume everyone is different.

My in laws get B12 shots. They went twice a month in the beginning and now go once a month. They both swear by them. Say they have never felt better and knock on wood, did not get sick the entire winter season.

i had low b12 on routine bloodwork and have had the shot once or twice.
now i just take the vitamins. i didn't notice a difference in energy level bc i didn't know it was low to begin with. i don't recall any side effect or major soreness. my doctor was more concerned about getting the number into normal range because it was very low.

I use to get a shot every few months. I thought it helped me feel better more energy right after. I stopped the shots some years ago because my B12 is good at this time

Re: B-12 shot

My B12 was low years ago and I gave myself shots monthly. It made the symptoms I was experience go away. I had no reactions to it.

My husband gets them basically every time he goes to his GI doctor because he has crohns and doesn't absorb b12 well. He also has never had any reactions.

What is the name of the test that finds out if your number is low? My mom in Fla gets these shots. When I mentioned it to my dr at my yearly visit and asked to be tested, she told me my insurance won't cover me for the test and that if my B levels were off, it would show in other routine blood testing Chat Icon I would really like to look into this

I was having blood taken by my GI doc due to other issues and B12 was one of the things he tested for. That's how I became aware. My primary care did not do B12 in my annual bloodwork ever, until they got the results from my GI.

I had started them years ago and originally had a lot more energy. Right now when I get them I am not getting the same effect but I also require 2 vials at each visit.

Re: B-12 shot

I had to get 3 shots each month... honestly, I felt no different. I do take b12 now on a regular basis.

My doctor checks all of my vitamin levels. On the form I took to the labs- It was just checked off B-12 in addition to D and a few others.
