OCD in children

My son is showing signs of OCD (constantly fixing his clothing, obsessing over bugs and doesn't want to go outside because of it, fixing his zipper and certain # of times, etc) Does anyone have experience with this who could offer advice on how to help him? I just bought a book that was recommended by a family who had a child that experiences OCD but it may take me forever to get through it. Any help would be appreciated??

First how old is he? Second, do these rituals impact his day to the point where he cannot function without completing these rituals? If he can live his daily life without completing these rituals he does not have OCD. The fixing the clothing could be a sensory issue. Does he complain of tags or certain fabrics of clothing? And he likes bugs, every child often has things they obsess over, these things don’t necessarily point to OCD, have you seen him evaluated by a psychologist/ psychiatrist?

I agree these things may not necessarily be OCD, but it's always a good idea to keep your eyes on him for further impact. Kids who grow to be a type A personality often display these type of quirks early on. My daughter is an extreme type A, and had many traits as a child similar to these and I was worried also. Alternately, my nephew had some odd traits as a kid (needed a new napkin to wipe his mouth after every bite, used like 30 napkins to eat a meal. Also changing his underwear every time he peed) and he grew to be a perfectly normal laid back 23 year old. So I would just keep an eye out, as the posted above said, to see if it starts inhibiting certain aspects of his life. Then maybe talk to your pediatrician.
