Christian Louboutin or Valentino Rockstud
I know this has been asked before but which would you get? I love the look of the rockstud shoe but the style is almost 10 years old at this point do you think it will hold it's value? On the other hand the CL are a basic pump with a red bottom which I know is the appeal but you only see that from the back. I have tried them both on and as far as comfort the rockstuds win hands down, I couldn't even walk in the CL 120 the 100's were ok. Which shoes would you pick?
UPDATE: So on Sunday I went to the CL store on 5th Ave in Saks with my husband. The sales associate was very nice and helpful, they know so much about the shoe fit and he told me what size I would need, he was spot on. I tried on 15 pairs in different sizes and styles. I ended up purchasing a patent black peep toe called the new very prive. It is much easier to walk in because it has a hidden platform. But before that he actually walked with me to the Valentino section to try on the rockstud and told me they both look great. I ended up going with the CL not because of the name but because I feel like it will be a staple in my closet and go with everything. I highly recommend going to the 5th Ave store I had a great experience. They also have every luxury designer shoe you can think of in Saks, 8th floor.

Re: Christian Louboutin or Valentino Rockstud
I'd pick the ones I could walk in. What good is an expensive shoe if you can't even wear it?

Funny you say that...I was watching a you tube video and they were saying how the CL are the shoes u walk from the car to dinner and back in the car, umm if I'm spending that kind of money u better believe I will be wearing them to every event. Totally agree with you

Re: Christian Louboutin or Valentino Rockstud
Probably neither. The Rockstud, like you said, have been around for awhile, and there are so many knockoffs around, so it lost its appeal to me. CL, are shoes that for the most part, aren't that comfy. I would try Manolo's instead.

I don't like the rockstuds personally - there are dated IMO.
I think CLs are terribly uncomfortable. I would get something else.

CL are sexy shoes. If you want them to feel sexy and only wear them for dinner and sit down events, CL is the way to go. It's a classic pair and I do love mine although they are painful after 5 hours. I don't like Valentino at all. That stud look is not for me. I have a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti and they are very comfortable and cute.
If you like Valentino, they are a black classic pump which caught my eye. Doesn't have any studs but does have their name printed on the back of the shoe. I have my eye on that one. It's called Valentino Garavani Classic Logo Leather pump.

Re: Christian Louboutin or Valentino Rockstud
For all the money they charge they can't make them any more comfortable? What kind of workmanship are we talking about here? I guess you are just paying for a name and a red paint job on the bottom.

Pretty much! Funny thing is a few years ago I got a pair of these shoes from a company called Oh Deer! and they have the red soles and are insanely comfortable. I cried when my dog ate one of them because I haven't been able to find them since. They were at a sample sale and I paid $10.

Yup. I never understood this. And never will. Sorry, I'm not paying for your name when I can't wear your merchandise. It's crazy to me!

To be honest, I bought a pair of BCBG generation rock sstud pumps from DSW and could not be any happier! and it super comfy! Jessica simpson made her version of this style too! The best part is that I paid $69

I have both and by far the Rockstuds are more comfortable. And it’s funny reading everyone’s opinions bc IMO the CL shoes are outdated. Everyone and their mother has a pair so they lost the appeal to me.

I just want to know who and their mother can afford to drop that kind of cash on a pair of shoes! I mean I do pretty well financially and pretty much buy what I want- within reason. I buy clothes and shoes often, but reasonably priced items. But if I ever spent that on a pair of shoes, when we have a mortgage and bills to pay, my DH would have a heart attack. And rightfully so! That is why it floors me that everyone and their mother has these shoes. But maybe my priorities are different or maybeI am not as well off as I think!

View it this way, many people don't buy clothes that often and spurge when they do. Tally up everything you buy in a month or 2 and see how much that comes out to. People don't have to be rich to afford a pair. Some just balance things out and buy what they love more. I'm addicted to shoes. I also do have a limit as to how much I would dare to spend on a pair and when I do, I know I'm not allow to buy anything else for 2-3 months.

Yeah true I guess. I have always been a quantity girl when it comes to clothes and shoes... I don't like to repeat an outfit all month, so I could never buy one really expensive item when I could buy 5 less expensive ones. I could never say to myself- ok you got your one pair of shoes, now no clothes or any other purchases for 3 months. LOL I"d go insane.

What does “hold their value” mean in terms of shoes?
Personally, I think any shoe, bag, etc that screams “designer” is tacky. A pair of extremely well made designer pumps that you’ll have forever makes sense but once you slap a red sole on them you lose me. I’m not paying to advertise for anyone. Also, truly wealthy people don’t flash it by wearing logos.

I highly doubt shoes hold their value. I know myself I don't want to buy a shoe that someone else had their sweaty feet stuffed into for months. No thanks. Shoes are not an investment.

Not to mention shoes break in and form to the owner's feet. The heels wear down based on the person's gait. I can't imagine wearing used shoes is good for the back, knees, ankles, etc.

Neither. I got a pair of CLs a few years ago and could not walk in them as the heel was too thin.
I don’t do heels anymore. I drive a manual car and there are too many cobblestones here.

Re: Christian Louboutin or Valentino Rockstud
I personally wouldn’t do either but that’s because I’m too cheap lol
But, I would go for comfort at least. Unless you’re walking the red carpet and being criticized for wearing an older design-it doesn’t matter. If You love the look and the feel ... I say go for it!

They actually kind of are. Between these shoes and bags , they hold value. If someone doesn’t want to pay $2600 for something but can get it pre owned for $1200 , they will. I wouldn’t , especially with shoes, but people do.

True, but that's not "holding" value. That is decreasing in value. You paid $2600 and now you sell it for $1200. Much like a car, it loses value right away.

Obv it loses some value. But I’m pretty sure my $30 shoes are worthless after I’ve worn them where as those types of shoes still hold a great deal of value.
Again. Not my thing personally. But I can appreciate someone wanting to make a good choice - it’s a biggie $$

I think the "hold their value" is what people tell themselves when they justify spending a lot on an item. No judgement! If the cost per wear is low, then it's a good return on investment.
