When do you go and get a consultation at the orthodontist?

DS just turned 9. I believe he lost 8 or 9 teeth by now. LOL!
His front teeth came in a little crooked. We don't have dental insurance so would have to pay out of pocket, but would like a consultation.

I would start with a dental appointment and see if the dentist refers you to the orthodontist

We started DDs orthodontic treatment at 9.

Your dentist will refer you if/when they feel the time is right/
They should be going at least 2 times a year for a check up/cleaning so the dentist will tell you then

dentist will tell you, really depends on what the issue is. DD just started she is 11, but she had numerous friends who got orthodontic stuff started at 9.

We started DS 1 at 7 as per our dentists recommendation. It made a huge difference.

Dentist will let you know. I have one that needed to start at 8 with a palate expander. Another that didn't need to start until 13.

My DS is 9 and a half, and will definitely need an orthodontist. But when we saw the dentist last month, he said he's not ready yet given that he still has a lot of his baby teeth. I think he's also lost about 8 teeth or so.

I was thinking he would go soon, because I actually got braces in 4th grade and got them off in 7th grade. But I think it more depends on the issue and when their baby teeth are lost/adult teeth in, more than just age.

Our dentist told us about 6 months ago that DD needed to see an orthodontist. DD is 8. I thought it was young but we went and she needed a pallet expander which she has been wearing for the last 6 months. She most likely won't get actual braces on for another 6 months or so.

9 or 10, the earlier the better and easier

DS is in 2nd grade and 8 and he already has friends who either have pallet expanders or braces already.

Unfortunately for DS he has my crowded mouth..his bottom teeth grew in crooked, his two front teeth have a space. He will definitely need braces.

at our last checkup he had lost one of his incisors and the dentist said lets talk about braces when the 2nd one comes out. the 2nd incisor was loose but shortly after that visit it came out (due to rough housing with DH)...

but I will revisit again at our next visit and I've already started looking around for orthos.

At my 9 year old’s last dentist appointment, we were told they would start talking about the orthodontist at the next appointment. His dentist appointment is coming up soon so I expect they’ll have us make an appointment with the orthodontist within the next few months.

I was told that if they are getting braces on so young, once they get them off, they will have to wear a retainer until like high school because the teeth are still shifting as they are growing. Mine is 11 and she does not have braces yet. She has a gap in her top teeth, but I'm waiting a bit.
