Possible Career Change- Need advice

I don't want to go into much detail, but the long and short of it is that DH and I work for the same small company and I think its time that changes. There have been some things that have happened recently and I know people are saying some not so favorable things about him that aren't true. Its causing me a ton of stress because I cant talk to DH about it and I don't know who I can really trust at work anymore.

With that being said, I don't make a ton of money ($50k/yr), but can't afford a pay cut. I am 5 classes away from my BA in Business Administration but not in a position to go back to school at the moment to finish. I already applied for SCWA at the recommendation of a friend. Does anyone have any ideas as to companies that I can apply for? I have strong Microsoft Office skills, Customer Service, Data Entry, Contract Processing, and Inventory Management skills. And that's just the tip of the iceberg as to what I do here. Any suggestions are helpful.

There’s hundreds out there. Have you thought of maybe doing a hospital or even civil service tests? Try indeed, or even a headhunter. Sorry you are going through this!

That was what I was planning on doing (handwritten thank yous) when I interviewed for my current job, 4 yrs ago, but someone I know who already worked here told me that they would be expecting email thank yous that day, so that's what I did

We didn’t expect written thank yous. I know some say to email and then follow up with a written note but we never looked for that, nor have I ever done it for jobs I’ve applied for but I’m sure it doesn’t hurt. Just an email is usually fine.

I entered the workforce in 2009 and thank you’s were absolutely expected back then.

Totally not snarky but I have never heard of sending snail mail thank you letters. In all my years of working and assisting in hiring for my boss I have never once recieved a handwritten thank you. Email is expected and I think my boss would laugh if someone sent a snail mail letter.

Kind of not the same, but this reminds me of something. We had one of our Business Development Executives go with a sales rep to a customer and pitch our services.
It was this sales rep's account and he brought her in to talk about our specific line of business.
He encouraged her after the meeting to send a hand written note thanking the customer for their time, etc.
She rolled her eyes about it (she's in her 20's and the customer is probaby in his 50s) but she did it anyway at the advice of the sales rep.
Well the customer was so impressed by the hand written note that he was talking about it for weeks. He felt it was so much more personal than an email, etc.
To this day we joke about it with her.
So sometimes, it depends on your audience.

We would occasionally get a handwritten note. I don’t recall ever getting just a handwritten note and no email. We never laughed at it and thought it was nice but we had usually already made a decision at that point. It never swayed us to change our minds. But we were in our 20’s/30’s ourselves and generally interviewing new grads and others in their 20’s.

I find this very off putting because there are still a lot of people who do not use email. Granted they may be older than 30, but right now I can think of at least 15 people I personally know who do not know how to email.

I do hiring and hate contact after an interview. If I want you, I will call you. Leave me alone.

Not a hand written thank you letter but a type written thank you letter much the same as a type written resume or a cover letter.
I am surprised you have never received a thank you letter via the mail. Nor do I think it's laughable that a candidate would take the time to send a tangible thank you letter. Old fashioned...maybe but not something to laugh at.

I get hand written thank you cards from reps fairly often. It's not something that the new professionals usually do though.

Thank you's (email) are great if you really want the job.

It's a great way to stand out (slightly more than the other thank you's) by the words you choose, the impression you left...

Reiterates it all, and you can add emphasis on something you feel needed it after the interview process.

Not all jobs look at it this way, but it certainly helps you stand out.

Also, Indeed & LinkedIn are great resources for finding jobs.

Check the LIRR website. There are always tons of career opportunities listed there. Check regularly because they are always posting jobs. They have awesome benefits and lots of room to grow. It's a great company to work for.

I guess it depends on the industry but it is 2018 and the vast majority of jobs would expect someone to be capable of sending an email.

Maybe I’m showing my millennial-ism but I don’t even know how someone would apply for a job without the internet. Where would you find a job posting?

If people are job hunting and not using email thats a bigger problem.

Go for an executive admin position in a large corporation near your house. They make good $$. Then go back to school and finish up your degree.
