World Cup 2018
Anyone following this? I always root for Germany or England. Since the US didn’t qualify, who do you support?

Re: World Cup 2018
My husband follows soccer closely, so I do by default! We typically root for Germany, since his family is from there and many are still living there. He will watch professional soccer any chance he gets and really enjoys the beauty of the game more than anything else. Hopefully Germany steps up and turns this around! My girls have brand new jerseys that they will wear this week!

We are a soccer family.. we are Messi fans so we root for Argentina .. but my daughters main coach for the last 4 years is a retired player from Brazil so we also root for Brazil for him .. I’m loving that so many of these games have been upsets, Iceland actually sharing a point for the first time is awesome to watch!

Colombia, both of my parents were born there. I am not a huge soccer fan though, my dad will likely tune in if Colombia makes it to the quarter or semifinals.

Re: World Cup 2018
i'm Polish. We have two religions: Catholicism, and futbol! lol
Obviously I'm cheering for Poland, but I'm not getting my hopes too high. DH can't cheer for his team as they did not make it to the world cup.
He had a hard time between Germany Mexico. Can't cheer for Germany on principle. couldn't cheer for Mexico since they beat US in qualifiers.
Ds is a huge Ronaldo fan. Was wearing his awya team jersey and watching the game right along with daddy. Called the hat trick before the game even started. lol
It's so crazy at our house, that my kid was up at 6 AM on Saturday to watch the first game.
futbol is our favortie sport and the world cup and euro cup are awlays a big deal. no better father's day than junk food, beer, and three games to watch =)

I hate Ronaldo (Portugal Ronaldo).
Onto the next game! England’s playing, so I’ll be watching!
I’m going to watch the next Germany game in a beer garden and that’s always tons of fun. I have my jersey all ready and the German colors. I wish I could find my England jersey from the Euro 2004. Ah, well.

I am not following this year because Italy is not in, otherwise I would. My grandfather ( from Italy) is super into it nonetheless!

i'm cuban/dominican and DS is half puerto rican. soccer isn't in our vocabulary lol if it doesn't have a pitcher on a mound, we don't comprehend what is happening.
being in southern california, i OBVIOUSLY know about mexico... there was a lot of yelling, cheering, fireworks.

everyone hates Ronaldo because he's a whiny baby. But you can't deny his incredible talent. His penalty goal was beautiful.
Vs. Messi who choked
vs. Naymar who didn't even try to score (dh and I are still questioning that move)

I’m half Peruvian so I’m already feeling the sting of this World Cup. But I just love watching every single game really. I would like to see Portugal win so Ronaldo can get a World Cup under his belt. I know some people hate him but i love him.

It isn’t even that he is whiny (I mean if we really think about it all soccer players are a bit whiny when they are rolling around on the ground). I just question a lot of gossip that surrounds him with his first child.

Big soccer fan here. Crushed that US didn't qualify, but not THAT surprised. I have always loved Argentina since I was a kid--I am 0% Argentinian and have no ties to the country, but have always rooted for them. Gabriel Batistuta and those iconic white and blue striped jerseys. Messi did not show well and I couldn't believe he missed the PK .
I DVR all the games but you can also watch full games and highlights on Fox Sports

Yay! Germany won! I don’t think they will go that far, though.
The England game was interesting. The Senegal game was also interesting, even if was a draw.

Re: World Cup 2018
I am beyond embarrassed to be Polish today. They didn't show up at all!!! Columbia deserved that win.
And this morning DH sent me news about all the behind the scenes things going on and it partially explained their horrible playing. If you are not a team, don't expect to win a team sport.
I'm secretly rooting for Senegal. they have been playing very well and with such heart.
I like Belgium a lot! they play like a true team and their bench is soo talented. Can't believe Russia is still in it.
This whole world cup is not going the way I expected, and I gotta say I am enjoying that.
already saving up for 2026. Hoping to go to at least one world cup game. I don't even care who's playing, I just want to be part of that excitement!

I hear you on the Polish thing. That was bad! I have Polish background, dobre deny (sorry that is my Slovak coming through- Dzien dobry!)
Senegal played really well yesterday, for the most part. They could have been a bit more less defensive, though.
It has been an interesting World Cup, to say the least.

I'm Italian so it doesn't feel like a World Cup for me this time around without them in it. I am rooting for Croatia at this point, since I have family from there.

Re: World Cup 2018
I’m glad Messi finally decided to show up, and that they looked really good playing together!
The fact South Korea bumped out Germany, to make room for Mexico was awesome.
My 2 DDs keeps going around the house screaming “hexa comes” after Brazil shut out Serbia .. I can thank their coach for that..
This is the first time we’re watching as a family, and it’s been really fun! My older DD is in a Real Madrid clinic this week and learning the “real” way to play soccer and it’s exciting to see her understand what build ups are and wanting to make it to the world stage one day!

I'm so sad that Germany is out- I had them going all the way in my brackets. I'm with Briu, I'm Rooting for Croatia since Italy is out. Close family ties there and I was fortunate enough to visit, but my parents are from Italy.
