Podcasts

I would like to start listening to some podcasts on my commute. I used to talk to my friend every morning but she is going on sabbatical so I want to have some go to things before school starts. I’m looking for positive feel good things and maybe workout inspiration. What do you listen to?

Maybe you would like:

Eat This, Not That!
Oprah's Master Class
Oprah's Super Soul Conversations
The Minimalists Podcast
Happier with Gretchen Rubin
The Moth

I always have trouble finding podcasts I love. Or I like the first 50 episodes but then get tired of them. I just try a of the beginning episodes of each and then I choose to either subscribe and stick with it or ditch the podcast. I like the ones above though, but those are the most motivational/inspirational and health related I could think of.

How does one listen to podcasts?
I never have.
Probably because i get bored too easily to sit through things like this, but just curious.

i listen on the train, never at home. If i get bored, or I don't like the guest, I just go on to another one.

download a podcast app.
i'm using RadioPublic

once you download the app, you search for the podcast you want to hear... just like music apps, you can search for a specific one or by genre.

the app will have the full history (all the episodes) and you can go back and listen from the beginning or you can listen to the most recent.

most podcast apps will give you options of getting alerts when new episodes are published so you can keep up to date on the ones you like.

podcasts vary widely.
some last only 10-15 minutes, some last 1+hour.
some are published daily, some weekly, some monthly

you can pick genres as wide as comedy and current events or as narrow as beginner knitting.

because they seem to be very inexpensive to create, you'll run into some that are recorded in vehicles, some that are recorded outdoors, and some that are recorded in fancy studios.

give it a shot. they can be really fun

All of this! I listen to podcasts while I'm getting ready for work and on the train to the city. Some podcasts I like are just new music mixes, some are news/business, some just pop culture. All of the above suggested podcasts are great!! I also like:
Dear Sugars
Note to Self
The Longest Shortest Time
The Moth archive is great

And I second 2 Dope Queens - so funny. I have seen them twice in person now too!! Love them.

Re: Podcasts

If you are listening on the train, let's say, are you burning through data?
Or no?

And do they cost money?

data:
yes and no.
if you stream, it will burn through data. but all podcast apps let you download episodes to play back without using data. you can then delete them and free up the space on your phone.

cost:
i want to say that i've heard of maybe some "exclusive" podcasts requiring some kind of paid memberships, but that would most likely be directly on those websites... i want to say that dave ramsey has one like this.

but it it's on a "regular" podcast app, they are free. you might hear a commercial every now and again or a request to donate, but that's it.
