Re: D&C tomorrow
You won't even know what happened. THAT is the part that freaked me out when I woke up. I had a pad in between my legs when I woke up and it just hit home what had gone on and I had no idea. Anesthesia is an amazing and scary thing all at once. The procedure was easy. I remember feeling mildly crampy but nothing advil couldn't handle and I was a little foggy that day from the anesthesia. Don't worry. Good luck!

D&C tomorrow
Good luck. It was fine and I was nervous. I didn’t sleep the night before, waited longer than expected so once I got home I lounged on the couch and napped.

D&C tomorrow
good luck. it will be over before you know it. like others have said, you'll be a little crampy and maybe a little groggy for the day. take it easy and take a painkiller.

D&C tomorrow
Thanks! Anesthesia is my biggest fear I’ve had surgery before and I always felt totally bugged out after and sick so hopefully I feel fine! I slept fine unfortunately I have to wait until 1:30.... with no food... for this today, I think not eating may be the worse part! I woke up STARVING!

Re: D&C tomorrow
There's no need to worry. I think the thought of it is more terrifying rather than the actual procedure. I've had three D&C over the past years and after waking up from the procedure it I only had mild cramping if that.

Thank you! Anesthesia makes me SO nervous! I’m hoping I feel fine from the anesthesia, I can deal with the cramping! I’m sure it will be fine! It’s just the anticipation!

Let them know you get sick from anesthesia and they will give you an anti nausea med in the IV too, I woke up from my surgery (Not a D&C) feeling 100%. I was shocked because I was so scared of how I was going to feel too. The anticipation was the worst part.

Thanks! Totally forgot about this. I told them during pre surgical testing I don’t feel well from anesthesia but I’ll remind them today that I want something! My c section that was my biggest thing not throwing up lying on my back it freaks me out and I felt fine after!

Re: D&C tomorrow
The worst part were the air pockets that got trapped in my shoulder!! It was so painful.
The surgery itself was a breeze and there were no complications

OMG I had the same thing from my gallbladder removal. They blow you up with air apparently and it has nowhere to escape . It felt like someone karate chopped my shoulders. For daysssss. That honestly was the worst part- my incisions were nothing. I took painkillers for the shoulder pain more than anything!

I just had my gallbladder out last Thurs and my shoulder hurt for days! The nurse suggested a heating pad which helped a bit.

Yes! I had a heating pad on it 24/7 and was taking more motrin for that than the actual incisions. I felt like i got my ass kicked in a street fight LOL

Agree!!!! Had abdominal surgery last week and the air pockets were the most painful part! Shoulder pain was unbearable! There was a note about the shoulder pain in my discharge paperwork which I thought was strange being that it was abdominal surgery but O MY !!!!!

D&C tomorrow
My last surgery (not a d&c) the gasses were trapped in my shoulders and it is the worst!!!!!! The more you walk the faster the air moves out so try and walk as much as you can!! I know you will want to give in and just lay in bed but trust me and walk!!!! I’ve had 3 surgeries unfortunately and the shoulder pain is the worst part of them all :( GOOD LUCK

Re: D&C tomorrow
Believe it or not that pain is caused by your diaphragm.
One of the most uncomfortable aspects after having Laparoscopic Surgery, is the subsequent organ, diaphragm & possible shoulder pain. This is caused by the CO2 gas becoming trapped against the diaphragm.
One type of pain that is unique to laparoscopy is the post laparoscopy shoulder pain due to the phrenic nerve irritation to the diaphragm caused by the CO2 gas that remains in the abdomen at the end of the procedure. When the patient sits up, the gas moves upwards to the diaphragm and irritates the shoulder.
Crazy right? It has nothing to do with your shoulder but the pain is felt there.
And it's usually for laparoscopic surgeries so i am not sure it would come into play for a D&C

D&C tomorrow
Thanks everyone! It went well I got to the hospital for 1:30 didn’t happen until 3. Procedure was about an hour my husband said. The doctor had a few images taken in case I want a second opinion but he said nothing looks grossly abnormal with the tissue or polyps and pathology should be back in about 10 days so hopefully all is normal! I woke up in a lot of pain actually, like VERY crampy and did need pain medication because it was much worse than I was expecting. Worse than the few contractions I had when I was pregnant surprisingly but once I had pain medication it stopped fairly quickly. I have a horrible sore throat today but other than that no cramping just some discomfort and I’ve had chest pain since the anesthesia which they knew about and said should go away. No gas pains, I had the gallbladder out that was horrific with the gas pains, none of that with the D&C for me! My husband is off so I can lay around today and not worry about chasing my twins which I’m grateful he took the day! Other than that it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated and I did ask for anti anxiety medication which I think helped!! Thank you again!
