Flu shots
I just tried making a flu shot appt at DD’s pediatrician and there are no appointments until the end of December.
Are there any urgent care centers that give them? I’m not waiting until the end of December.

Re: Flu shots
Stat Health and City MD do- but I am not sure if they do kids. Maybe give them a call
And that is insane that they would make you wait until end of December That's way after the start of flu season! We have an injection nurse that does it at my ped's office and it takes less than 5 min- they should be able to get you in!

Re: Flu shots
Thats crazy that you can't get in until December. I switched practices because our old ped's office was like that . I know that pharmacies also offer a flu vaccine, just make sure its a pediatric one vs. adult.

Don’t even get me started. Honestly, I should switch peds but if we’re going to move before K I don’t want to bounce her all over the place. We only go for annuals and flu shots. On the rare occasion she’s sick we usually go to urgent care. Unfortunately, they don’t give flu shots (I LOVE our urgent care and would use them as her regular ped if we could).
And this is why private practice physicians are going the way of the dinosaur!

Stat Health treats kids as well as adults and has a ped on staff I think- so maybe they have the ped flu shot.

Re: Flu shots
I just took my kids to RiteAid last year. No appointment necessary.
But I think it's unacceptable that they can't get you in until December.

Re: Flu shots
Were they full of appointments? We never get our flu shots until December because the flu season goes so late! My ped actually recommended that I wait until at least November.

Flu shots
Our ped usually does a flu shot clinic on a few weekend days, I think around October/November.

That's what they said. I would imagine every parent thinks it's ridiculous.
We usually do November (I actually requested November when I called, thinking I was early) because you're absolutely right.

Our ped does flu clinics on certain days since after 2 kids don’t need to be seen by a doctor before getting the shot.

Flu shots
We got ours today which I think is early but my pediatrician was having a flu shot clinic and said that we were fine getting it now. Im sending my husband to Stop and Shop to get his. He won't get it till the end of October.

Flu shots
One of my kids had a well visit yesterday and they gave it. Last year we never got them and I decided that this year we will, just in case. Better early than never.

Re: Flu shots
That is crazy! the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends getting vaccinated as soon as possible before October. First cases of flu are already starting to pop up in some places. I know PM Pediatrics does Flu shots for kids. Some pharmacies will not do younger kids FYI

Once you have acquired immunity through the shot, you don’t lose it, so it’s best to get it as early as possible. It takes 2 weeks to build immunity. My son got his today.

Not necessarily true. Not saying it will be ineffective... but may be less effective. Below is why some doctors want you to wait. http://www.immunize.org/askexperts/experts_inf.asp
