1000 books in 180 days of school? I would get Clifford books with a word on each page

Re: 1,000 books for kindergarten
I love this. I love to read. My daughter was reading before she made it to preschool before she loved books so much and we read so many each day. And then entered kindergarten reading at a level J/K. I don't understand people who say they haven't read 1,000 books in their life. There are 180 days of school and even more if you include the weekends. It is so easy to fit in 4 books at that age per day, and if you aren't reading small board books, or quick reads, I am sure you can log every five-ten minutes of reading a longer book as a book. Like chapters as books I mean. Most kids in kindergarten can't read, so they are probably expecting you to read to them. I own 750 children's books currently, would love to own more and my daughter who is 6, has read them all, some of them hundreds of times over.... literally no joke.
Anyway.... here is a great list of books:
Any Mo Willems books, seriously, he doesn't have a bad one. All Piggie and Gerald series (this is his best). The Knuffle Bunny series. The Naked Mole Rats one is funny. Also the pigeon series is pretty good.
Penguin Problems!
The Little Engine That Could
The Going To Bed Book
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?
Guess How Much I Love You
Chicken Soup with Rice
We're Going On A Bear Hunt
I Want My Hat Back
Are You My Mother?
Go, Dogs, Go
Chicka, Chicka books
Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons!
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
All Kinds Of Kisses
Stellaluna
A Sick Day For Amos McGee
Bear Has A Story To Tell
The Day The Crayons Quit
Interrupting Chicken
Chrysanthemum
Bear Snores On
Click, Clack, Moo
Time For A Hug
Library Lion
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Not A Box
Where the Sidewalk Ends

My daughter is the same. She has a book in her face 24/7!

Our district does this but its 1000 books before they move on to 3rd grade since our elementary is split between K-2 and 3-5. Also, you dont have to choose the books yourself, they send them home with a bag a week.

That is bc the teachers are onto the fact that the parents do the log

We get a bag every week or two weeks based on how fast they are read and returned. 1st grade has to get their own so this list is more for my cousin. I packed her up with 20 books and sent them over to her but she has a boy and my dd has lots of girl books he has no interest in. Lol.

I don't understand people who say they haven't read 1,000 books in their life.
It's not hard to understand. I only read in the summer at the beach or on vacation by the pool because it passes the time and I get bored just sitting out staring into the distance. I don't read at all in the winter. And I read slow. A book can take me months to finish. I get very bored and antsy if i have to read for more than 20 minutes at a time without a break.
So I probably read about 3 books a year tops.
Maybe when I'm 80 I'll have read 1000 books.

Agreed! My DS is in first grade and just starting to read beginner chapter books. How could he read 1,000 books that are 100+ pages each in a year? Literally impossible. I much rather him challenge himself on harder books and take his time doing so then rush to read multiple easier books.

I’m so happy my sons teacher only does 30 min a day and no logs. The funny thing is that my son actually asks or reminds me he has to read. I nearly fell off my chair the other day when he mentioned.
I guess because it’s not being forced.

My daughter does enjoy reading, but logging the crap is just annoying and we are busy on weekends a lot! So now when we are away, we have to worry about bringing a damn reading log instead of just reading and putting the book down. Ugh

I know many parents who just don’t do the reading logs. They’re upfront with the teacher at the beginning of the year that they’re comfortable with the amount their kid reads at home and that’s that. They don’t push back. What’s the difference if you read 10 min/day or an hour over the weekend?

As a teacher, I did away with logging reading time years ago. It's a chore. Reading should not be a chore.

Bless you. A teacher with common sense. Last year in 2nd there were no logs. Maybe it was just her teacher. This year they are back with a vengeance.. with questions to boot. On top of 40 min of homework each night. In 3rd freaking grade
