Dating site question - How long have you been on this site?

So today my bff called me in a tizzy all upset. she says she cannot understand why man ask that question,...like what is the relevance? she says she never answers because it is stupid and doesn't see how it matters or why it's their business.

I told her sometimes men don't know how to approach women or have anything sensible to say and to just reply 'not long' .

What say you?

To me it sounds like they are just trying to make conversation

Prob just bringing it up as a conversation starter. He is trying to find something to talk about that he knows both of them has common experience.

I get that sometimes. I think it's just a way of bonding. I usually ask about crazy experiences they've had (since it seems like guys get more spam than women).

I think it helps to know how experienced someone is in the dating world and this is one type of question that would answer that. I know when I divorced dating was brand new to me and I was inexperienced and learned a lot about the dating world. When you ask someone that you learn how long someone has dealt with all that comes with online dating.

It is a somewhat annoying question and I've had a bunch of guys ask me that. The guy I am dating now asked me that question when we first met. I had only been on that dating site for a week when we went out for the first time and his concern was that I hadn't had enough time to date since separating from my ex. and that I wouldn't want to be in a relationship for a while. I told him that 1) I had dated since being separated, but not through that site; and 2) Its quality over quantity and I didn't need to date a lot to know what's right for me.

At first it did seem to be a small issue for him - that I hadn't enjoyed "single life" enough, but he's definitely moved past it now

SO said it would be because he would want to find out what exactly they want (hookup, relationship, etc.). It’s not really a thing to do to get a conversation.

I have not had this happen to me. If I did, I would just be truthful. This is something she can change in her bio about exactly what she wants.

I don't think it calls for a tizzy, lol. Just don't answer and move on.

I always read it like either bonding or trying to see what you're looking for and sort of an intro as to what your history is on the site.

Dating site question - How long have you been on this site?

It's a normal question. Maybe they just want to see how long you've been single or trying to date. Its really nothing to get in a "tizzy" over

If someone sends out a vibe to a man that they are in a tizzy about a question like this they are going to have trouble in the dating world!

I just sat and looked at her in disbelief.

p.s. she has only been on the site a month and hasn't met anyone 'serious' only those looking for hookups or perpetual texters, weird convos, etc. been on one date turns out he is 60 and doesn't look like his 40 yo pictures on the profile.

I feel bad for her.

She's clearly not cut out for online dating if that causes her to delete her profile. I am not sure how that is offensive.

I was going to say the same. Clearly she isn't ready for online dating. It was a harmless question, its not like she got an unsolicited d*** pic. LOL

Haha - that was me. :D I get those innocent questions all the time - they don't bother me. I'm more annoyed by going on the blind dates and being instantly not attracted to them but know I gotta sit thru a meal. I got smart and stopped accepting meals - only drinks so I can leave early.

yea. I told her don't bother joining anymore sites, clearly she has no tolerance nor patience so why bother.
I suggested she join meet up groups or start going to happy hour or other in person things.

we'll see....
