last minute flights **UPDATE**
Ugh! So we kept dropping the ball with getting flights the first week in Nov to Puerto Rico. Still looking, but prices aren't looking good at all.
We are going on a cruise, which is already booked.
This is what happens when you work with another family and there are too many... wait, let's see if something is better. And it isn't!
Anyway, praying we can find something not too expensive and soon!

I don't think you are going to be getting any good deals this late. Most flights are fully booked.
And all the good rates- wanna get away- on southwest go first.
I'd just suck it up and book before it goes any higher or there is nothing left. It's not like you can be flexible either with a cruise booked.
I always book my flights first and early because this stresses me out too much

Check airlines that may be farther (philly, RSW, Newark).

I have had really good luck with last minute flights. I always use Skyscanner.net. That being said, I couldn’t get a flight a few weeks ago from Munich to London for a reasonable price. I got awesome deals from Frankfurt to NY.
I think it really depends on which hubs you go to.

You can save flights and they will track the price if it goes up or down. They will also show you the history of the price of the flight and tell you if you should buy now or wait. They will also show you flights with two airlines if that is less money. For example, to Orlando this past August, we flew Delta down and Jet Blue back up because the price worked out that way.

thats a tough time... thats "Jersey Week" so a lot of people from NJ fly out of the airports up here to go away... and the airlines know that and take advantage :-/ i think at this point you might just have to go with it... especially if you already have a cruise booked.

Ohh Jersey Week! We don't have that on Long Island...price out the flights from ISP. You will connect in MCO (not bad, we did it once to SJU) but it will be cheaper than NJ probably!

I would look at airports a little further away and see how the pricing is.

So last minute worked out. It is nerve racking, but we were able to get flights $325 each that leave Sunday morning Nov 4 from JFK to Puerto Rico and come back Monday, Nov 12 in the morning.
The cruise leaves that Sunday night at 8PM and they will be missing the school day obviously Monday. Wasn't thrilled about it, but it was hundreds more per person and wasn't worth it. That day is only a half day anyway so total they are missing 3.5 days.
That week is Jersey week and we do live in NJ. I know a lot of people going away that week so hopefully won't miss too much work and the teachers will give us stuff to do so they won't miss much

Great! A piece of advice, not sure which cruise line you are going on, but I would make sure you take your own luggage with you from the plane, to the ship (I know Disney has an option where they get it for you at the airport, no idea about other lines). Reason being, flying in same day, I've heard many horror stories of luggage not making it on the boat! I would also make sure you have insurance on your cruise, because if god forbid your flight gets delayed or cancelled and you miss the boat, you are out the money. I use insuremytrip.com

Glad things worked out. We aren’t cruising until May out of Port Canaveral and I’ve been price watching. Delta is pretty pricey and American is insanely high. I’ve been waiting for JetBlue to release their flights which has been delayed and pushed until the 14th. In the meantime Delta is about to bump their prices up since it says”last 2 seats at this price”. Frustrating

I have had less delays out of Islip than any other airport. Plus you can't beat the ease of traveling to/from there. Short lines, and small terminal so getting your bags and getting to your car after you land is super fast!
I flew Delta recently with my kids to/from JFK and it's always a shit show there. The TSA pre-check line is NEVER open in their terminal, curb side check in for bags is hit or miss (mostly miss these days and you have to go in and weigh it and check it yourself), long lines, and our bags took over an hour to be put on the carousel. The agents are very nasty there also! I would never fly with them if it wasn't for miles that we accumulate from business travel!
