I'll have my turkey with a side of Coxsackie
Hi,
Part question, part vent. So last Friday, 11/9 my 2 year old was sent home from school with Coxsackie. It wasn't a bad case...but a few days later my husband got it-a BAD case. Sores all over him - he can't walk or hold anything without being in tremendous pain. I got a head cold (luckily not Coxsackie) in the meantime and yesterday, I took my 5 year old to the doctor and voila! She has Coxsackie too! So I'm the only one who can do anything right now. My husband can't change a diaper, feed the cat - nothing...poor guy.
So...we were supposed to host Thanksgiving in our new house - just moved 2 months ago. My dad from upstate, my mom from Florida (who we haven't seen since May), my mother-in-law from PA....and now obviously, we are hazmat - so no one is coming. To say I'm bummed is an understatement.
Ok - so, what do I do to make this special. We have been talking about how wonderful Thanksgiving was going to be in our new house. The kids were really excited and now it's lonely sickville. Any words of support or advice. This is one mama on the edge.
Thanks guys and Happy and HEALTHY Thanksgiving to you all.

Can you make Thanksgiving with your extended family another day, like Saturday? Everyone should be feeling better by then.

If possible, I would try to postpone thanksgiving too.
As for the actual day I would either do an appetizer party and just heat up snacks all day or a soup day or something like that. Just watch parade /movies play games if you are up to it.

Last year my daughter had coxsackie for xmas and the yr before m ymil had pneumonia. We basically just picked another day and pretended it was THE day. Id make it fun for ur nucleur family that day. Parade, movies, crafts, snacks etc and celebrate with the family another day if you can. It is what you make it and it can be special.

Re: I'll have my turkey with a side of Coxsackie
I am so sorry!
I would do a small turkey and trimmings for just you guys on Thursday, watch the parade, maybe make a thanksgiving craft, they had a turkey ginger bread house thing at trader joe's. Then could you reschedule the larger party with your family for Saturday or Sunday? if you think you'll all be better then.
It reminds me of how my younger DS got an explosive diarrhea stomach virus just as the turkey was coming out of the oven last thanksgiving. I had twenty people on their way to my house. I thought I would die, I was going from the kitchen to the bathroom with him. I scrubbed my hands about fifty thousand times that day (no one got sick either!). It was a horrible nightmare. Now we try to laugh about it. hang in there!
