Ugh! What is happening to my 9 year old!
So DS has usually always been a good kid. Always good in school, gets very good grades and wonderful at friend's homes too. The parents are always saying how good he was when I pick him up. At home... is another story. I swear he's starting puberty (which I doubt, but who knows), or he's bipolar. One second he's happy, then moody, eyes roll and then fine. I can usually figure when he's hangry and sometimes a good distraction gets him out of a mood. Forget about it if his team looses I get a tude. Either his own team or one of his favs from prof sports. I notice his friends are similair too, but all get along well except for a few competition fights here and there. Anyone else have a moody 9 and a half year old?! It's like he's too cool one second and then a momma's boy the next. It's never super bad. I call him a light switch. I know he has some sensitive sensory issues he's outgrown a lot, but who knows with hormones it makes it worse. Thanks!

I don't think it stops after marriage either
Seriously, my daughter is 11, and all of her friends are the same way. Since NINE. Even the boys! I am able to reel her back in with a stern talking about rolling eyes and attitude, etc. Then a few weeks later, I'm having the same conversation again. Parenting is HARD !

Yes!! It started around Sept when 4th grade started. I get it... school work is harder, no more off Fridays with homework and after school activities, but the mood swings. Ugh! I tell DH all the time our son is on his period. Then after he's wonderful.
This morning he woke up in a good mood and Around 7:30 (bc he knows I've been on him with his attitude) he says.. hey mom, I've been good this morning right? I'm like... yes, for the one hour you've been up you've been good.

My daughter started this at SIX! Doc said even though it’s not puberty, their hormones start changing that early and can cause intense mood swings.

DS1 has been a pretty easy kid except for when he was a baby. When he turned 9, he definitely started changing. He became more defiant with us and had an attitude. He’s about to turn 10 and it ebbs and flows. I wasn’t expecting these changes to start yet, but in talking to friends, it sounds like it’s pretty common at this age.

Misery loves company. I have been so sad the past few weeks because my daughter who is almost 10 has turned into a beast! Meanwhile anyone that knows her outside the house adores her. It’s crazy! Very glad I am not alone. I’ve been really letting all of it get to me.

I felt the same way after reading other people's stories of their 9 - 10 year olds. Ugh! I'm telling you he's a saint at school and friend's homes. He's not always bad, but this new attitude and mood swings! This is why I'll be enjoying my wine! LOL
