Anyone following the Jussie Smollett story?
I've been obsessed with this since the beginning. I cannot fathom how he thought in this day and age he could get away with this. I do hope he is charged with making a false police report and prosecuted. He now will make it harder for the real victims of hate crimes to be believed.

I don't think he orchestrated the attack because he has absolutely nothing to gain from it. He's already on a successful show. This will just ruin him if it's true.

My initial thought was drug deal gone bad but then I realized he wasn't really hurt and now they're saying he paid the people to beat him up??? What purpose did any of it serve?

I really want to believe that he's innocent because WHY in the world would someone orchestrate an attack like this? That's an insane thing to do and you have to know you'd be caught! Right?! IF he did pay these guys to do this, was he going to hope they got convicted and went to jail? Did he expect them NOT to keep proof and claim their innocence? What the damn hell?!

See that is what I want to know. If he did stage this, what was his motivation?
I have heard theories from he was being written off the show and wanted to garner sympathy so they would keep him to he received a threatening letter to the set of Empire a while back and felt it wasn't investigated properly.
Nothing really makes sense though.

And IF he was going to pay some guys to "attack" him and scream racial slurs, shouldn't they have been of a different race than him? Why would people of the same race call you racial slurs? That makes no sense either.

Anyone following the Jussie Smollett story?
The latest is he staged it b/c the letter with the white powder (aspirin) he sent himself didn't garner enough sympathy.
The fact that he wouldn't turn over his phone made me suspect in the beginning and now more and more keeps coming out and it doesn't look good for him.

The fact that one of the "attackers is his personal trainer and was an extra on Empire makes me think this was definitely a staged incident.

The more I read about this, the more I think he is maybe having some sort of mental breakdown or something. How does someone go from normal to this? Over night? Maybe something more to it mentally than we know just yet.

Thanks! It's so hard to follow this story. One second he's saying they are masked the next he is saying he's SURE those were the guys and then his attorney is saying it's impossible that he knows the "purported suspects". You mean the guys he SPECIFICALLY said were definitely the assailants on TV? The guy who is easily traced back to him? WTF? And WHY in God's good name would these guys go along with it? They must've been paid reeeeaaaaal good!

I thought something was off from the get go and have been following it closely. I think he was beat up at a club for going after someone else's boyfriend. Then he was on the phone with his manager who on the fly came up with this BS. So he had his friends come and they did not really touch him. But they did go out to buy rope. Then he said to the police oh see that tiny camera pointed in the wrong direction it got the whole thing on tape. Who notices a camera like that? Then if you were attacked, wouldn't you say to your manager who is on the phone with you call the police. Or wouldn't you say to the front desk manager, I was attacked, call the police? You would not walk into your building still wearing a rope on your neck and say nothing. That defies common sense. You would be freaking out, not calm. You would take the rope off. You would not wear it for 45 minutes. That just seems strange to me.

I’ve been following since it happened and the whole thing seemed weird to begin with. I’m not sure what outcome he hoped to gain from staging it. Why would he want to send those 2 guys to jail? The whole thing is bizarre.

I found it hard to believe when the news broke. I mean, yelling this is maga country, the noose, the ref to being gay. The trifecta. For some reason I just didnt believe it. It took him a long time to address it. I found that strange.
And people lie all the time. For sympathy. For publicity. So if he did make it up. Im not surprised. Very stupid though.
ETS: his story has changed so much I find it hard believe he wasn't involved.
They are now investigating if he sent the letter to himself.

People lie all the time, about things not as bad as this and about things worse. If he did lie (and it's looking like he did), I am guessing that he did it thinking he was somehow proving a point, like, "look how racist America is" and "look how homophobic America is" and hey, even if it didn't really happen to me I'm going to pretend it did because it happened to somebody somewhere, right? So let me get the sympathy....let me get the attention...and let me throw in the MAGA hats aspect to further demonize Trump supporters in the process, stirring up more division and outrage! It's a win-win-win!

this is disgusting that he did this. I personally think it takes away from the issues he was trying to bring attention to. When this happens to people for real (and it does) maybe they won't be taken seriously because of what this clown id. (It's like saying you were raped when you weren't, makes it harder for people to believe the real victims)
If he filed a false report I hope they prosecute him in any way they can or charge him for all the manpower spent on this bogus case

Why should the show be cancelled? Jussie Smollet clearly has issues. But he's also not the star/creator of the show (from what I know, I don't watch). I do think he should be written out of the show. And let's face it, his career is over.
The Rosanne Barr situation is different. She called Valerie Jarett an ape. On twitter. She was also the creator/star of the show. What was the network supposed to do?
