what is your take on baby sprinkles?
curious to hear your opinion, because my sister is now having one, and I'm pretty pissed off about it (because I was asked to help plan it). I'm a little annoyed because I did my part for her real shower only 2 years ago. I've only been invited 1 sprinkle my entire life (which i declined because i thought it looked greedy IMO). According to my mom, EVERYONE has a sprinkle now. What's your opinion? Is this actually normal?

it doesn't rub you the wrong way at all? the one i was invited to was the same gender, close in age, etc... like what else do you need besides diapers and such? anyone who comes to visit after the baby is born usually gives you a gift anyway
i feeling was that maybe if it was a big age gap or something it would be OK

A sprinkle is usually a lot less involved and formal than a shower. Like a little "hey, we're acknolwedging the new baby" but not an over the top big party. I had a sprinkle because my two kids were far apart in age. My friends took me to a surprise lunch of about 8 friends and I got clothes and lots of little things. There was no registry or anything.

I'm generally cool with it if there's a big gap or a different gender.
Otherwise...I think they're pretty much just attention-seeking/gift grab.

I am fine with them IF (and ONLY if) the kids are a good few years apart as in OVER 4 years apart and especially if they are a different gender. ANY less than 4 years is just completely silly and unnecessary IMO.

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
I have no issue with someone wanting to celebrate a new baby. Some might see it as a gift grab but it's a new baby. And generally sprinkles are a lot smaller than baby showers. It's usually the closest circle of friends/family.

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
I love parties... any type. Just tell your sister that you don't want to do it then.
I'm so over people complaining about sprinkles, gender reveals, over the top birthday parties, etc.. IMO anything to celebrate something positive is a good thing. If you don't like it, rsvp no and be done with it. Who cares if ppl want to have a party and celebrate? Is it really that terrible? My family does all these things and I love attending. It's not about gifts, it's about celebrating something positive with the people you love.

I’m very “you do you” when it comes to parties but I find sprinkles incredibly tacky.
TBH, I hate the idea of showers in general. My mom threw me a small bridal shower which I wasn’t thrilled about but I absolutely refused a baby shower.
Anyone you’d invite to a shower/sprinkle will send you a gift anyway. Probably a bigger gift because you’re not forcing them to decorate bibs or play baby sh!t bingo or whatever it is.

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
growing up every single pregnancy got a full-blown baby shower. i guess because that's what i saw growing up, i have never had an issue with showers or sprinkles.
i feel that any occasion to get together and celebrate is alright with me.

It's greedy......
Yes every child deserves to be celebrated.. However, typically I doubt that is the reason for throwing it. The only time I truly believe that is the intention is if the invitations says, "No Gifts Please".

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
I'm not that big on them, but I had my 4th baby (a big surprise) 11 years after my first. My girls (11, 10, 5) wanted to give me a sprinkle so my mom hosted one for my close friends and family at a restaurant. It was totally my girls' idea and they loved it.
I worried that it might have annoyed people, but if they didn't like it, they didn't have to come.

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Every baby deserves to be celebrated IMO. My DD is only turning 3 and I *think* my family is planning something small. It wasn't necessary, but I'm surprised how much crap I still need even though I have all of DD's stuff. Though it is a little different since I'm having a boy this time around.

I get it if there's a big age difference between babies and it's super small, but otherwise I do think it's a bit of a "gift grab".

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
I think they are the norm, but I think they are just a money grab, and I’d never personally do one. I’ve had 4 kids, 2 boys, 2 girls, I had a small shower with my 1st. But my best friend is pregnant with her 5th, and I have had to go to a sprinkle for each one and I’m legit over it, and I love her and her kids, but it’s asking a lot of friends and family.

You see and your situation is just what a sprinkle is for! I know someone who wants to do it for their second baby and they will be just a year apart. I find them tacky in that case and would decline. In a case where there is a gap of a decade, hell yeah lets sprinkle!

I don’t think sprinkles are necessary and especially since the kids are 2 years apart it looks like a money grab. I think if it’s a small group of 15-20 people at someone’s house it’s not too bad but I would only go if I am close to the person. Is this your mom’s or sister’s idea?

that's insane! i texted my mom we should write "no gifts" on the invite and she replied that if she is paying for the party then it's only right that people bring gifts. She said she will write to bring a pack of diapers. still rubs me the wrong way though.. even though it's her party, if I'm helping out and everything i feel like i'm going to get lumped into this as being greedy and it's so not how I operate. I hated the attention at my bridal and baby shower lol

I have two sisters, and it was the idea of the non-pregnant sister. She was the one who brought it up to my mom and said they should do it, and then they both contacted me to say we are all going to throw it together. However, the pregnant sister found out about it because her mother in law didn't understand what a sprinkle was and was talking about it with her and asking her questions about who would be allowed to come, thinking it wasn't a surprise. It's just all stupid IMO. I hate giving up my weekends too so i'm just bitter.

Then why not just do birthdays or Christmas? Or no gifts? You can change it if it bothers you that much. My SIL decided she didn't want to do Christmas gifts with us anymore. I only have 1 kid, she has 2. I was annoyed at first but I'm not going to force anyone to spend $ on my kid if they don't want to.

Because she would throw a fit like a toddler. Trust me, I would gladly stop. The last thing my DD needs is another toy.
Admittedly, I wouldn’t mind so much if she and her kids weren’t completely obnoxious.
OP, my bff is pregnant with her second (2 years apart, same sex) and I might plan a nice brunch at a restaurant and we can chip in and get her a massage gc or something but not sure that’s on the table in your situation.

Re: what is your take on baby sprinkles?
My take on it is that every new life can be celebrated if that's what the parents choose to do.
If and when I go to sprinkles I give what I feel is appropriate, and that's usually just something very small.
If you only want to give a box of diapers, do it.
Personally, a sprinkle wasn't for us, but we did have a small family party after DC2 was born so everyone could meet them and at that time people of course brought gifts. I did not register.
I agree that a full blown party that a mom registers for feels like a tacky gift-grab, but that doesn't obligate me to go along with it.

In my family...which consists of about 20 cousins, we do not do it. My sister in law threw me one for my second child. My kids are 2 years a part all boys. It was a surprised, but to be honest I was so embarrassed.
