Hi!
5 adults going to Cali for 1 week. Anyone have an itinerary they can share? They want to do one day at Universal Studios. TIA!

They should probably pick one of these areas and stick to it, or they will be driving a ton or flying

San Fran - Alcatraz and Muir Woods. The hop on hop off tour buses are great in this city
San Diego - What do you want to do there? The beaches are great. Mission Bay has lots of stuff you can do like rent jet skies, paddle boards, etc. La Jolla beaches are my favorite. San Diego Zoo is great.
Hearst Castle is on your way down/up from San Fran to LA.
The drive from San Fran to San Diego is about 8 hours.
We all loved the Warner Bros Studio Tour. Paramount has a night tour I wanted to do but it was not good for kids.
Old Town is around San Diego and it's great place to visit...a bit touristy but that is okay.
The Midway is very cool to visit too.

California Itinerary
If I had only a week I would probably skip one of the cities - probably San Diego.
I would drive from LA - SF.
In LA - I would spend most of one day sightseeing all the touristy stuff - honestly the open air tour bus in LA was really good and an easy way to see everything. You can do a day at Universal.
I would drive from LA - SF and stop in Santa Barbara/Carmel. I would also spend a couple of days in Napa/Sonoma, if its an adults only trip its a must.

I agree. For one week, I would skip an area. I did this trip a few years ago. We started in SF for a couple of days and ended in LA. We really enjoyed the drive without feeling rushed. We stopped in Carmel along the way for a night, then Pismo and then spent a few days in LA and flew home. This gave us time to enjoy the whole drive down from SF to LA. There was a bit to see along the way. It definitely was a beautiful drive.

Re: California Itinerary
The Sheraton Universal gets good reviews in my Marriott group (it's a Marriott property). It's right next door to the park.
I went to Cali last month and did a side trip to Newport Beach. It was so nice, stayed at Lido House hotel, which was super awesome! That's South of LA though, and San Fran is north. Next month I'm going to Laguna Beach I think
