VSCO girls
Has anyone heard of this new trend amongst middle schoolers? I’m just dying laughing because it is so ridiculous.
They even have their own sound/slang word, I have no clue. “sksksksk i oop”
You can read about it and hear it here. Be prepared, it’s super annoying.
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/laurenstrapagiel/this-is-why-vsco-girls-keep-saying-sksksksk
Short description (I feel like we’ve all done something similar in the early 90s):
VSCO is for the “gorls.”
VSCO is an app that girls can feel confident on without the pressures of likes or comments."
And from stayhipp.com
"The Brief: A VSCO girl is someone whose lifestyle matches the aesthetics of the VSCO app.
VSCO girls are defined by how they style their lives to be trendy and match a certain aesthetic, which they then post about on social media. Their style is considered to be both trendy and basic. VSCO girls are often characterized by how they consume and what they post on social media, both on VSCO itself and on other platforms.
“VSCO” can be used as an adjective, usually to describe someone or something that would likely be seen on the app.
Typically, the term is associated with one or more of the following products/things:
Birkenstock shoes Crocs Scrunchie hair ties Hydroflask water bottles Brandy Melville clothing Instagram-able meals Metal straws Slip on Vans shoes Choker necklaces (Particularly Puka Shell) Multiple rings worn at once Friendship bracelets Polaroid cameras Pastel nail polish Mario Badescu skincare products Fjällräven backpacks Stickers on laptops and water bottles Carmex lip balm Metal Straws Anything about saving the turtles Oversized shirts with short shorts, so it looks like a dress.
The relatively niche collection of products that make up this trend makes it only accessible to those who can afford it. Like the basic b**ch stereotype, this term is largely (although not exclusively) used to describe white teenage girls."
Someone hold me *shiver*.

I need to leave society. I just need to find a desert island to go inhabit and start over. I'm done.

I’m hoping that video clip is exaggerated. But the noise is apparently real.

Re: VSCO girls
Eh, I think it’s like any other trends we had as preteens and teens in the 80s and 90s. I’m sure plenty of folks in their 40s were rolling their eyes at the 1989 iteration of me, complete with pastel lipstick, foot-high hair, and Cavariccis.
I have 14 and 12 year old girls and from that list they own: Puka shells Fjallraven backpack Vans Scrunchies Hydroflask Mario Badescu Stickers on laptops
They’ve never said those phrases, but my 12 year old has an annoying habit of exclaiming “Yeet!” Which I think she says simply to BE annoying
I think this quote from the article summarized the whole thing well...”Like most things teen girls like and do, VSCO girls are often mocked.”

Re: VSCO girls
I just wish there was a way to teach young girls that you don't have to be a sheep. Who cares what skin care line you use, as long as it works for you? Keep it home in your bathroom and who would even know if it's Mario Badescu or not? Honestly
I think that has been the issue for generations. the sheep mentality, no individuality, no sense of self. It sometimes even carries way into adulthood for some people. If we could figure out a way to break girls of that, we'd be doing well. But that's really a unicorn.

it's just a fad just like the silly things that we did when we were teens. I still remember wearing feathered roach clips in my hair well before I even knew what they were suppose to be used for lol.

Absolutely agree.
I know every generation has had their fare share of these types. Mine as well. For us it was Z Cavaricci's And Sergio Tachhini. But that is nothing in comparison to what i see now. I have a 16 year old niece who is never without her fake lashes and full face on. She is absolutely beautiful with or without but for her, it's an absolute no no to be seen without her face. She's 16!! She's not me @ 42 hiding chins, dark spots and wrinkles. And she isn't using cover girl lol I don't know. It's stuff like that that makes me place a check in the pro column of not being able to have kids because I don't know if I can handle it

VSCO girls
My daughter is 12 and they were talking about this the other day. She has some of those things on the list, and I was telling her what was "in" when I was her age. Skidz pants, Espirit bags, scrunchies! safety pinned jeans, etc. It's all just a fad. Mine doesn't have social media to post it all on though.
