Re: Anyone been in this situation before?

Oh wait I didn’t say I didn’t like or appreciate the advice i was given

Its just that I have thought of all these suggestions

Me driving them to school is not an option because I leave my house at 630

Like everything else it will get resolved, I’m not worried

Just frustrated esp because I was told a few times oh it’s not a big deal I’ll make a phone call, back in the spring. And now, only now, am I being told otherwise.

Again I was just frustrated

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and for all your suggestions

I’m sorry you are feeling frustrated.

If you leave at 6.30, is that when the bus comes for your oldest? Who puts him on the bus and stays with him until then? Can this person drive both of them?

Can you have it written into his IEP that his brother is of comfort to him and should be with him?

Now that is a great idea
Unfortunately his iep meeting was in the spring

You can request a new meeting at any time for changes and updates I believe.

Anyone been in this situation before?

If you leave at 630, who puts your son on the bus now?

Calm down everyone. SHE'S VENTING!! She clearly understands why it's probably not going to happen, she's just disappointed. Give her a break.

If my youngest spent years waiting to ride a bus that his older brother and some friends were all on, only to find out it was never going to happen, I'd be disappointed too. I'd probably be a tiny bit heartbroken for him as a matter of fact.

If you don't have a useful suggestion, give her a Chat Icon or move on.

Does your district offer before care? I would drop both kids at that if it's an option. They won't budge. And you can't use your other son as an emotional support person to get him to be allowed on the bus.

While I don’t think it’s likely they will add this to his IEP, you should know you have the right to reconvene an IEP meeting at anytime. I reconvened one a month after my son’s annual meeting because I was not happy with some of the goals and the wording after speaking to his outside therapist. The school wasn’t happy since they had to get the whole team together again, but I didnt care.

Just wanted you to know this for the future (sometimes they tell parents they have to wait until the annual-that’s not true!) I feel ya about the busing. It’s never easy. Chat Icon

Totally, 100% Pencils have erasers for this reason. Theres nothing better than to have an emotional support in place for him. You could even explain that he gives you a hard time and physically, you can"t throw him on the bus....
I would also demand a traffic study be done (it takes a long time but it works, even if they have to do one every year)

my advice is to start at the transportation office and work your way up the chain of command. Chat Icon This is frustrating, I know

The son with the iep/bus transportation is going into 4th grade and the younger one is just starting K. I don't see how you can make a true argument that he now needs emotional support and his brother on a bus he has been taking alone for 4 years.

As I said before - I was also in this situation so I understand how hard it is but I don't see how any school will or should budge on this.

That is super annoying. I'm surprised your middle child doesn't get bussing as a kindergartener. Are you on the cusp of the cut off? We are and I made a super long winded and annoying argument about it last year and they put him on the bus.

Re: Anyone been in this situation before?

I went through something similar last year. My son was in an integrated class for Kindergarten and had a mini bus coming to my house to pick him up. He receives PT and we felt the steps on the larger bus would be hard on him and other reasons per his IEP. His kindergarten was not in my home school and his teachers felt that he was ready for general ed. My daughter was entering kindergarten and they would both be at my home school. I contacted transportation and the special ed department to try and get my daughter on the bus with him. I felt exactly how you felt about two kids being on two different buses and still going to the same school. I had also heard from an aid in his kindergarten class how it was allowed for another child that she knew so it was possible to get my daughter on the bus.
I thought about why for me I wanted the bus and how much fight I wanted to put in to getting them both on the mini bus. In the end I opted to just put him on the regular bus with my daughter and it all worked out for us. He loves the bus and yes it takes him longer to get on the bus and off the bus but its fine.
I understand your frustration totally, maybe ask on one of the facebook pages. I know there are lots of advocates that help and know what to say or have been in your similar situation. Good Luck!! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone been in this situation before?

Does your school offer a before-care program? This is sort of my situation as well. My DS has an IEP and gets bused, DD does not. DD goes to before-care at her pre-k. Will be the same situation when she goes to K next year (the school offers a before and after care option).
