Grand jury duty
Can anyone share their experience with Nassau a county grand jury duty? Wondering how long it lasted? Is it 9-5, 5 days a week? I know it says it can be 4+ week but wondering actual experiences of those who have been through it Thanks

Grand jury duty
It completely depends because it can vary so much depending on the situation. When I got called for Grand Jury in Nassau, it was going to be once a week for 10 months.

Re: Grand jury duty
I got called for Grand Jury in Brooklyn, but it was about 3/4 months, 2 days a week. Most days we were out early- anywhere from 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM, sometimes even before lunch- some days we stayed the full day, I think 4:00 PM. It was really a crap shoot. It was really interesting!

Grand jury duty
I served Grand Jury in Suffolk. I did 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Like the pp said, some days we were dismissed early, some days we were there all day.
BUT, that depended on the court you were selected for. I went into a large room where they randomly called names for 4 separate juries (2 for Riverhead, CI, Hauppauge). A coworker was selected for a different jury where he served once a week for a year.

Re: Grand jury duty
It depends on the court and judge's schedule.
My colleague had it 1-2 times per week for a year, but not every week. He had a schedule ahead of time so he could figure out his work schedule around it. It was typically 3-4 hours per day. It's never longer than 9-5, though.

Re: Grand jury duty
It depends on the case(s).
When I had grand jury duty, it was for one big case. We met 9:30-3:30, three times a week for 4 weeks. We got out earlier than 3:30 on several occasions.

Wow how do your jobs deal with you being out either for a full month or for 1 day a week for so long?

They don't really have a choice. If you're called, you're called. Grand jury duty is VERY difficult to get out of because you generally don't need to be there every day. We'd hear 3 or 4 different cases a day depending on what was on the schedule so if someone absolutely couldn't be there one day (sick, doctor's appointment, etc.), they were expected to come back the next scheduled day.
ETA: I work for a law firm so they had to at least pretend to be understanding. They also paid me my regular wage for any days I served, which I was very lucky for and wasn't always the case.
