Senior Dog- Update

This past weekend we had to say goodbye to our pup. She had been battling kidney failure since last October and lived a good, full life literally right until the day before she passed. That morning she didn't come and wake up the whole house for the first time I can remember and she was lethargic and could barely walk (dislocated a hip). She still ate bacon when we tempted her with it, but you could tell her heart wasn't in it. We took her into our vet and they said if we weren't there, she wouldn't have lasted the day. She was over 13 years old and will be very missed. Chat Icon The hardest part is my DD is 3 1/2 and only kind of understands death. We did tell her she died and that she can't come back but I don't think she knows what that means really. Fortunately she won a goldfish at a fair this weekend and we got her a few friends so that's keeping her mind occupied. Chat Icon Thanks for all the advice we received here. Chat Icon

ETA: This is my DD and our Lucy this past Easter.

Thank you!! That means a lot to me. A friend of my mother's actually found her tied to a tree in Prospect Park. She was afraid to take her to ACC since so many pit bulls go in and never come out. So we took her in to foster and failed spectacularly. Chat Icon She was well loved by us and especially our daughter. She was wild but she was such a good hearted dog, a true advocate for the pit bull breed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That picture is precious.
13 is a wonderful age for a dog, especially a pit.
I have a senior cat, she will be 15 in 3 weeks, and dread the day she will leave me.
