Holiday Pics- Tree Farm?

Has anyone had any luck taking pics at a Cut Your Own Tree Farm? I see some of them say no pictures with props or whatever, which I totally get, but some of them don't say anything. I don't mind buying a wreath or something for the privilege of it. I'm by no means professional, but I want to bring a wooden crate and take pics of my DCs at the farm for holiday cards. Am I an @sshole for wanting to do this? Has anyone done this?

Re: Holiday Pics- Tree Farm?

We cut our own tree every year so we've been to a ton of different farms. I've never see them giving anyone a hard time about pictures. I always take a ton of pics of my kids picking and cutting their tree. If you plan to take the pics yourself, you prob wouldn't have to buy anything. They are usually so busy that the staff wouldn't even notice.

I think just about all of them have a rule against professional photographers and props. You don't need props for a nice pic though.

Thank you! I’m not doing props- I was thinking something for them to sit on but even a blanket is fine for that. Just because DS is only 8 mos. If you don’t mind me asking, where do you guys go? We’re trying to not go allllll the way out, we were looking at Elwood or Carter? Any experience with either?

Re: Holiday Pics- Tree Farm?

It's funny you ask this. My professional photos were at a tree farm this year.
The day they did it, in late October, there were several other professional photographers there too. I assume they had to pay the owner a site fee or something though.
I am sure if you go in the height of tree cutting season and just whip out your camera they won't even notice. I'm sure everyone takes pics there as they are cutting down their trees etc

That's kind of what I thought- I mean one of the places we looked at is 20 acres. But I also feel guilty somehow? I don't know- I guess it's no different than going to a pumpkin patch and taking pics of the kids which I also did. But then I walked out with a buttload of pumpkins, too. Chat Icon We're planning to go next Saturday- after Thanksgiving.

I might not be much help since I'm from eastern Suffolk, so we head like all the way east when we go. Usually the North Fork. I've only been to Carter (in Miller Place) once a few years ago. It's a small farm so the staff is more attentive. I def wouldn't recommend them for trees, but that actually might make it better for pictures because the trees were pretty small. So instead of DS just sitting next to pine branches, you'd probably be able to get a good portion of the trees in the picture.

I literally take pics of my kids getting our tree the entire time. Looking for "the one", standing next to the trees, cutting one down, and even dragging it a few feet just for a cute pic. I don't think they ever would, but if they gave you a hard time about not buying a tree, I would just say you couldn't find one you liked. I've left a few farms empty handed when they didn't have a tree we liked (Carter was one of them). If you really felt bad, I would prob just buy a wreath lol.
