Optimum Rate Increase
Has anyone received their Optimum bill with February rate increases? I have Optimum Silver and regular Opt on line internet. They are each going up $30. Then a few more things are going up.
I am paying $299 now and will be paying over $370 a month starting in February. I called and got someone who could barely speak Eng. When I asked what speed internet I had, she said "No Speed" Yep sounds about right.
People with Fios, are you expecting a huge increase? (Thinking if Optimum increases this much the others might, --if not, it's obvious Optimum doesn't care about keeping customers)

Optimum Rate Increase
We just got rid of optimum. I seen the bill steadily going up and it was at 200.00 and we had nothing fancy! My DH called and got someone on the phone who was willing to give us 5.00 off. Really? In Oct the bill would’ve went up to like 350.00 when the promotions end We dumped them and got optimum. We are only one bill in at this point but the package we got we’d be cheaper then Optimum.
ETA-we dumped Optimum and went with FIOS.

Did you go with Fios? I think even if Optimum offers me a deal when I go to quit, I'll still leave. I don't like how its been run. Like you said, there was constantly small increases for a while, and I just stayed with it. With this huge one, they are making my decision easier.

call optimum. say disconnect to the voice commands. then when the person comes on the phone tell them you need a cheaper deal. Just did it last night. My account was due to increase next month too. We actually just went down to basic and only 1 box. with the smart tv and the kid watching youtube no need for all those channels until baseball starts. eta: we had optimum switched to fios switched bac optimum and wont switch back.

Thank you. I didn't know that about the telephone voice command. Honestly, I did not know how the rep I got to would manage to provide or transfer me for a discount. You said you won't switch back. Why is that? ( I have been with Cablevision since almost the beginning of time. LOL)

Yes we went with FIOS--(I edited my original post.) The first bill that I just paid was high b/c of the installation, etc. I am not too sure going forward but I know that it will be cheaper than optimum.

Re: Optimum Rate Increase
They are both the same
For me, Fios is a little cheaper at first but by like $35 and th it’s with less channels
I suffer and pay more than my car payment for the convenience of having movie channels and 4boxes
I call and argue every year and get a “better” price. But by no mean sis it an acceptable price. It’s just that the switch won’t save much anyway so it’s not worth the hassle

Re: Optimum Rate Increase
It's SO expensive it is RIDICULOUS. Until more people cut the cord, the cable companies have no reason to lower their prices. We pay so much it's crazy.

Re: Optimum Rate Increase
We haven’t had cable in 7 years, I don’t miss it for a bit, any show I really want to watch I can find somehow. For example I wanted to watch the show Outlander so I downloaded Starz and paid $11(first month free) to watch the whole series then cancelled it. When we used to watch the walking dead live we just downloaded sling for $20 per month and cancelled it when the season was over. There are unlimited shows and movies to watch on Netflix and more current shows on Hulu. Cut the cord!

Re: Optimum Rate Increase
OMG..my MIL in brooklyn is paying $222 a month and that includes her phone / wifi, cable with premium channels. If it goes up my DH is going to have a heart attack. He called a few weeks ago to try and get it lowered and they insisted it was the best deal.
She is in a condo building and Fios is not avalable yet in her building.
Her WIFI never works when we are there and she never uses it but needs it for the phone. we were thinking of switching her to just a landline and getting rid of the phone / internet. She is 70 and will not use a ROku or any other streaming device, so that is out.

It is INSANE how much it costs just to watch TV. We have FIOS and pay for channels we never watch just because there are a few we do.

Re: Optimum Rate Increase
I have heard nothing about these price increases. We did not get our February bill yet - we won't get that until we pay our January bill. Did they send you a letter or something explaining all these major rate increases? I find it hard to believe they can just send a bill one month that is almost $100 more!

It was an insert in with the bill I just received a few days ago for Billing period 1/08-2/07 Due Date Jan 22. This bill amount was the same. It's warning that the next one will be increased.

Optimum Rate Increase
At Optimum, we aim to provide our customers with the most advanced services and entertainment in the nation. As demands on our network and programming costs increase, the standards and costs of providing world-class products and services continue to rise. While we work hard to minimize the impact on you, pricing adjustments will be made to select Optimum rates, effective with your February bill. There will be no more than a $14.50 increase to your current monthly rate. Current rates can be found in the 'Account Details' section and new pricing is on the last page of this bill. If you are on a promotional rate, pricing for that rate won't change until the promotion ends.

So I just went online and found this very notice on my bill. But then at the end of the bill was a list of the new February rates and it looks like my bill would go up $60, not $14.50. I guess I will have to call tomorrow.

I feel like FIOS is like the same thing. They reel you in with a deal and then raise your prices... We have FIOS and we are paying $200 a month and we are not even getting any premium channels.

It still is. You can still get free over the air signals, just like decades ago. You're limited in what channels are broadcast, but it's basically the same limited list that we had in the '80's.

Thank you for that. I did not originally see it on my bill. I did call (I'm the OP) but I had questioned about my bill going up $70. The rep said she would make a note on my account that I was upset by that- ( something to that effect)- Nothing was said about it only going up $14.50.. although I believe she did not comprehend too well. Thank you for pointing this out. I will call again and specifically question that.
Edited to add - I have to return a box this week. Maybe I will bring my bill and price increase insert and see if someone at the Optimum store may be more helpful.

I wonder if they are capping at 15 dollar upgrade, but per service. Internet is one service; TV is another service, etc.
If I look at the rest of the bill with the new pricing and compare with my old pricing, the difference is internet would be going up 30 dollars and my TV 20 dollars.
Maybe new people pay the full price listed on that plan sheet, and people already that have the services would only go up 15 on each.
Just a guess.
