"Cocktail Attire"
I'm going to a friend's 50th birthday celebration at a restaurant in the city this Saturday night. There is a cocktail hour and then sit down dinner, for about 30 people. She says the dress code is "cocktail attire". Does that mean cocktail dress? (I feel like that might be too dressy?) I do prefer dresses over pants, but open to all ideas What would you wear?
I have a top just like this but don't know what to wear it with and definitely don't have to wear this

Re: "Cocktail Attire"
It depends on the vibe of the restaurant, but I'd probably go with a dress- I feel like this is more lounge/club attire than cocktail. It's SO pretty, maybe you can wear it with a skirt?

I'd wear a dress.
I love that outfit, but that's more of a night out than cocktail attire, IMO.

Re: "Cocktail Attire"
Ok I can see it on my phone.
I Love it. Where did you get it?
But I agree with the others about going with a dress.
And according to the Google
When the dress code on an invitation reads "cocktail attire," it suggests a dark suit worn with a tie (a navy or charcoal grey suit is best) for men, and a shorter, party-ready dress for women, such as a little black dress or even dressy separates like a skirt and blouse"

Re: "Cocktail Attire"
I'm in the minority here but I happen to think that top or something similar would be fine with a pair of black pants.
I don't do dresses, so I would have no choice to wear an outfit like that. Cocktail attire doesn't always have to be dresses, since not all women wear them or like them. You can still be just as dressy with a dressier top and pants and of course a Heel.

I agree, I can’t see the top but you can wear a dressy shirt with slacks and heels for a night out in the city.

That's not a pic of the exact one that i have, but very similar. The one I have is from H&M. I couldn't fin it before, but just found it. It definitely looks more gold IRL.

Re: "Cocktail Attire"
Thank everyone. Any thoughts on a skirt that might go with the sequined top? (I wouldn't really want to wear it with pants) Or pics of dresses that would fit the description of "cocktail attire"?

A black pencil skit would be perfect.

A pencil skirt or I prefer it with flowy or pleated midi skirt with a belt, more fun. A pencil skirt makes me feel like I’m wearing stuffy work suit attire.

I love it too. I think it looks so much better with the faux leather pants than it would with a skirt. Maybe even wide leg pants too.

I also think this top would look so much better with a pant; most especially the faux leather.
I think this top with any skirt would almost look misplaced.
Just a thought........

I agree. I usually prefer to wear dresses, but this top is beautiful and it'd look better with pants.
