Heading towards the apex

So far I’ve been handling this like everyone else I think. Good moments here. Bad moments there. I recognize we are a lot better off than many but my heart aches for others sorrow as well. I’m so fearful of what is to come.

I’m just now starting to realize how real this will likely get very soon. With people I personally know sick or even worse. I feel awful for my team and their personal situations - like a 24 yr old whose entire family is in India and she can’t help them/be close to family. And other friends/colleagues with family sick.

My MIL is actively still going out shopping near daily and my FIL is immuno compromised. How long till they get this?

Our friends mother tested positive and was at their house a few days ago; wife is pregnant and they have a 1 yr old.

We haven’t left our house except for walks/runs in 3 weeks. I went to the pharmacy (desperately needed) and grocery store once. I need to get more groceries and so anxious if I should delay as long as possible or go tomorrow before it gets any worse?

There’s no point to this post, everyone is in the same boat. It’s just really sinking in and I’m so scared of the next few weeks with the what if’s.

I know five people who have died. I know more in the hospital, and more who are sick at home. My physician friends are really worried. It is real. We have been at home for over 20 days now. I am thankful we are able to get delivery groceries.

I understand. I’m terrified. Up until now, I have been vexed over whether I should still be getting supplies or if the time had come to make due. Well, I decided yesterday the time has come to make due. We have enough stuff for two-3 weeks. If we eat cereal and frozen pizza on week 4, so be it. We are not leaving the house. I am starting to hear many stories of young acquaintances getting sick and dying. My boss has it. I am beyond terrified.

I totally understand. I feel the same way. My brother is a healthcare worker at a local hospital & the stories he’s been telling me, I am sad and terrified, for him and all of us. For example he’s watched young people gasping for breath and dying alone Chat Icon Chat Icon
My mother lost 3 friends in the past week to this, yes they are older but they were not sick before this.
I’m worried for all of us.
I live right near the epicenter of the epicenter as they call it.
I feel like I don’t even want to go to any public place for a very long time & dread going back to work. I’m afraid for my kids to go back to school & daycare. I can’t even think about it. I use gloves to get the mail or packages & leave them in the basement for a few days. Constantly Clorox ing everything. Lately DH & I are having a scratchy throat, ears hurt , lots of mucus... most likely allergies... but I get so nervous... and I realized our thermometers are broken & can’t get one shipped until May.
Even when this is “over” I feel like it won’t really be over because there will still be outbreaks. Is this going to be like the flu, being a danger every year, except this virus is more contagious & more deadly? Is it even possible to become immune if there are different strains? The fear is real that things will never be normal again.
I’m thinking April we are going nowhere. My kids were supposed to have their well visits at the pediatrician this week & I canceled. It just seems risky.
We do take a drive every afternoon before dinner just to get “out” ... we stay in the van the entire time & That’s about it. Not sure what we’ll do about food... just use up everything in the house. We have a lot of pasta, rice, canned foods, etc. We have 4 kids who are always hungry & I know we’ll run out sooner than later. Will have to figure something out at that point.
