How does unemployment work.

Can someone tell me how unemployment works normally?

Does the company you work for have to approve it?

How do they really know you are unemployed is my question I guess.

I am going to try calling but I have feeling even if I get through they are not going to know the answer.

DH is supposed to be applying every other week cause he is only working every other week.

so he hasnt technically worked since 2 weeks ago (he is working this week)

the first week he used hours he had last week he did not.

We only filed last week but I just logged on to his unemployment and it is now showing for week ending 4/5 and 4/12. when we only wanted to file for week ending 4/12 since we use hours for 4/5

I dont want him getting overpaid then having to pay it back.

Yes, your employer has to approve it. That is how people get denied if they actually quit their job.

When he goes online to file they will ask him how many hours he worked the previous week. If he worked 40 (or whatever) hours, then he will not be eligible that week. If he worked 0 hours, he will.

The questions every week will walk you through it and as long as he answers honestly he will be fine.

ok thanks!! we only filed last week (week ending 4/12) and only claimed for last week so i dont get why its showing up for week ending 4/5 we didnt do any claim for that week. Unless his employer stated that he has been out since weekend ending 4/5Chat Icon

if we get the deposit for 4/5 I just wont use it and make sure to put it to the side. just drives me crazy that we have to do this!
