What to buy? (chromebook/ipad/laptop?)
My daughter (6) has an iPad, my son (4) has an OLD ipad that doesn't work half the time.
We're not sure what to do: 1. Get him a new ipad 2. Get a Chromebook or Laptop for DD and give DS her ipad.
We want to spend about $250-$300 - which is enough for ipad/chromebook/cheap laptop.
The advantage of #1 is that he is already familiar with how to use an ipad.
The advantage of #2 is that she (and him because they will share) will start to learn how to use the mouse, and so on. Plus they will still have 1 ipad to fall back on if they don't want to use the Chromebook/laptop.
Now if we go with #2, is it better to get a Chromebook or a cheap Laptop? Problem with a cheap laptop is that $300 probably won't buy much. And a cheap laptop might not work well.
$300 is more than enough for a chromebook, but is a Chromebook as versatile as a laptop?
Thanks!

We have 2 laptops and a chromebook. There’s absolutely no comparison. If the function of the chromebook is for the internet only, go for it. If you want it to function like a laptop, get a laptop.

They’ll likely learn how to use a Chromebook in school. I wouldn’t worry about that.
A 4yo would probably have no interest in a Chromebook, not to mention an iPad is much more portable.

My daughter is 10 and we bought her the Chromebook that flips into a tablet. It was a compromise for the exact same question. They were using Chromebooks in school even before the closure

Schools use Chromebooks not laptops?
I'm surprised because I assume Windows is much more in use than iOS and whatever OS chromebooks use. I would think they want kids to learn whats most commonly used out there.

I would get another iPad. It is more portable than a laptop or chrome book. Our school district uses iPads in the classroom.

Chrome books are cheaper so I think that’s why.

Re: What to buy? (chromebook/ipad/laptop?)
for 4 yrs old I think an Ipad is perfect. Chrome book would be too bulky and can't do all the fun games and apps on it. Not easy to walk around and play either. My kids had their Ipads for years and played games. There are also school games they can get the app when they start kindergarten,
My boys also have chrome books, but we got that for them when they were both in 3rd grade bc they do their homework on it. I'm glad we got it now bc they use it everyday for home school.

Ok, thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like 6 and 4 is a bit too young for the chrome book.

Also you can access your Google docs from any computer so it makes it easier to do work on your school device and then at home.
