Have you heard this will happen in your towns? There are internet/Facebook warnings that llooters are planning to "march through the privileged neighborhoods?" It has happened in the suburbs of Philly and Chicago, so I am not lying when I say it is worrying me a lot.

Do you realize how ridiculous you sound posting that you are worried about protesters coming to your town? This is white priveledge showing. I am honestly aghast at this comment and to be honest a bit disturbed no one has pointed this out to you. This is why we are protesting. Systemic racial bias. There was a beautiful protest in my town on Sunday. No arrests, no looting, arson, or vandalism. People of all races. The protesters should come to your town and you should join and speak to them. PEACEFULLY!!!

Sorry but you are obviously not fully informed calling her “ridiculous.” In the past 24 hours we have received emails from local town officials warning us of the possibility of exactly this happening. Yesterday there were disgusting posts all over Twitter detailing their plans. They came but the police were ready for them and they were not successful and a few were arrested. They were arrested in a residential area. We had helicopters circling our area half the night. There were threats of looting and burning down houses that had American flags. Also of targeting specific wealthy neighbourhoods. These protests that may have noble intentions have incited a whole group that has very violent and insidious intentions. The amount of hatred is scary and dangerous but it’s on both sides! Get your facts straight before you insult someone,

I have my facts straights. And I can tell who the nasty people are on here.

And problem #1 is you are taking FB as truth.

The one in West Islip was organized on FB and they targeted that town because it is predominantly white. They changed the event details a bunch of times, but it wasn't worded so nicely when it was first created. The whole way that played out was bizarre.

How is a peaceful protest "targeting" a town? I'm not familiar with the inflammatory wording which it seems some residents thankfully pushed back on but I see a peaceful protest as a sign of strength and positivity, not something your town had to endure bc they were targeted.

It wasn't originally meant to be peaceful. That's what I mean by targeted. They planned on violence and even planned on what to do when the police teargassed them. The event page looks nice and peaceful now.

The girl that organized it used very inflammatory language in her fb post. Once she was called out on it, she back pedaled big time to emphasize she meant it was supposed to be peaceful but by then it was too late. The original post was screen shot and posted all over social media. She is young and inexperienced and this should be a good lesson for her on how words can be construed on the internet.

I inadvertently drove through the West Islip protest. It was a little intimidating just because of the sheer numbers of people in the streets but it was totally fine and I was moved by the efforts these people were making. Had I not been intimidated by the initial invitation and the fall out from that on the local moms pages, I may have considered bringing my son there to witness it.

I will say that AFTER the protest, the amount of lies and rumors spewed on the local moms pages was disgraceful. Horrifying really. Now I understand why its a big deal to move to a town that lacks diversity. I was sick about it.

Stringer news on fb posted about protesters in mastic blocking traffic tonight on sunrise highway. Yes, a big disruption but that's what civil disobedience is and it's still nonviolent. There are hundreds of comments already and the vast majority say to run them over or shoot them. It makes me sick to live amongst such hatred.

It's our first amendment right to protest NON VIOLENTLY. What the cops did to George Floyd was murder. But there ARE people taking protests to another, very dangerous level. Turn on the news - there is a REAL threat of mobs looting, setting fires and KILLING people. It is not "white privilege" to want to have law and order in this country. I cannot fathom how anyone can say that rioting is justified?!?

Police are warning residents in my town to stay indoors. They are finding pallets of bricks on overpasses along the Long Island. I have never been a fan of the second amendment, but I understand the need for it now. From what I've seen of looting in the city, it is anarchy and mass chaos.

I did see the video on Oyster Bay News of the protest in Merrick. The residents looked like an angry mob from 1967.

I am sorry but they should NOT be blocking any roads. I believe in protesting but by doing that you are putting others in harm. How do you know what these people are doing when they are trying to drive by? How do you know that there may be an emergency in that traffic? It is rude and selfish.
Protest in a parking lot (hell, you know how many businesses are closed that it is possible almost everywhere), protest on the side of the road.
Yell, scream. Do whatever makes you feel better.
DO NOT interfere with others lives as you are accomplishing NOTHING.

I'm curious too. I'd think something like this would be on the news- like News 12 or in Newsday.

I saw someone post pictures of bricks on Facebook and then they said the police were notified and they were taken away. I want to say it was East Rockaway? But I can't be sure, and I don't have time to go look for the post. Not saying that means it's true, people are crazy enough where they could have put the bricks there themselves and taken a picture. I heard this today from someone saying in the Bohemia/Sayville area. Not sure if any of this is true but it is going around. Also said there were helicopters around the area last night but then again, it is training night.
There is a helicopter going around and around this morning so maybe just making being safe.

Re: VIOLENT Protests spreading to suburbs

I have seen so many posts on Facebook warning of violence, but none of them have turned out to be true. People are posting all day about things they heard from a friend of a friend who knows a police officer. None of these are true.

The vast majority of protests have been peaceful and very moving to watch.

While I want to believe that those rumor posts are originating from a place of genuine worry and concern and maybe even ignorance, in my heart I feel (know) they are coming from a place of hate that is designed to turn it into an “us vs them” situation and create a further divide.

What a sad world this is.

I agree, they were blocking the road on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley. My friend was driving out to Smith Pt with her camper and had to detour. I also heard (not sure if it was true) people were throwing bricks off the bybasses on LIE and Sagtikos pwy

VIOLENT Protests spreading to suburbs

I'm assuming the chance of looting coming to the suburbs is low.

Suburbs are not easily accessible - need to drive here. So there would have to be a caravan of cars.
Plus the looting has been very quick, to break into a house then search the house would take much more time.

At most (if anything does happen) I think it would be some vandalism - trashing of parked cars. (hope it doesn't get to that level)

But thats the suburbs.

The city is trashed, not so much apartments but stores.
Tons of stores looted.

Manhasset. Near the Americana. I saw the video of the people getting arrested on a residential street. Their were rumors of groups taking the train from the city and walking over to the Americana and rumors of people filling up gas cans at local gas stations. Not sure how much was true but there were helicopters overheard and a large police presence blocking off the Americana.

It was posted by the owner of Tutto Pazzo, but the owner of Pancho Villa’s was with him and didn’t say a word.

I was questioning it the other day, but I know the bricks thing is 100% true now. I still don't understand who would waste the money on dropping off random piles of bricks, especially near the over passes of the highways, but apparently it's happening. I understand someone ordered and paid for them, but whatever company is dropping them off should be brought up on charges. They must know it's not for building.

Re: VIOLENT Protests spreading to suburbs

There's been a flyer circulating today on my town pages. No one knows if its true or a hoax, but I heard cops are now gathered at the alleged meet up point to ensure it stays peaceful if it happens. I am all for peaceful protesting and there's no doubt there is injustice in this country. Yet the flyer doesn't sound peaceful so its concerning. I guess we will see what happens.

The flyer reads:

Rebel.
March.
Mosh.

Bring your spirit in all its inferno.

My People
March with me through the privileged neighborhoods. Lets make the privileged uncomfortable with our noise & passion so much they can no longer ignore us. This is Phase 1.
