Nursery decor help...
So before we TTC we decided we would keep DS room the nursery and move him into a larger room for his "big boy room". 8 weeks after his big boy room was finished being completely remodeled I found out I was pregnant with twins.
This week we found out the twins are girls. So they are going into that room.
Since it is a brand new paint job DH is trying to get me to keep it the way it is. But it is a blue with gray undertone and I am just having the hardest time making it more feminine. The furniture is all white and here is what the room looks like:
Any ideas how we can make this girly without repainting? I don't want to buy complete bedding sets because A) we never used most of it with DS B) we need 2 of them so trying to keep cost down.

Re: Nursery decor help...
I love the room and the colors.
I say keep it as is.
Just add some girly texture and fabrics and colors sporadically around the room.
One way you could def add some girl in there is with feminine curtains. I see you have the venetian blinds... but adding a delicate fabric and color will really make a drastic difference.
Also a girly looking rug.
Once you put the girly clothes and stuff in there I think that will help as well. But I would also make it a point to find pink and frilly things to put on the shelves too.
I think a pale pink will really compliment the dark blue colors nicely.

ITA. I was going to recommend the same thing. I think it will come together and look like a girls room once you get the girly things in there.

Re: Nursery decor help...
PS you could even do a girly mural of sorts on one of the walls...
even if you use a big decal or something.

Re: Nursery decor help...
Re-paint just the bottom half. Make it pink, purple or yellow. Get the bedding you want first then match it.

Keep it as it! The two BIGGEST things you can do to make it more girly: area rug and curtains! If you have a big, feminine print on them (or a giant pop of pink), the room will scream girl in no time . i love it right now!

I would definitely get white cribs for the girls. I found a few pictures that might give you a better idea of what you might be able to do to make it more girly. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Nursery decor help...
you could do white lace curtains, a white chandelier, those name/letter block things held up with big white ribbons, and some toile bedding?
or a cow jumped over the moon/moon and stars theme?
or some fleur de lis decals?

Pink and blue is my favorite color combo for a girls room. There are so many bedding sets with these colors, you should have no problem finding one. Throw up some pink butterflies, and decor, you will have a gorgeous room. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Nursery decor help...
I'm partial because I'm doing blue as a gender neutral room (we are staying team green), but I love it. I would do what the other posters recommended and add girly accessories, like a chandelier and a rug. I would even incorporate a pink or purple as an accent color. Perhaps a light purple fabric glider. Or some lavender boxes in the cabinets you have. I really like hot pink accessories with blue so you could always sub that color for the purple. I'd do some pretty pictures too that have lighter blues and purples or pink accents.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far! I never really thought blue and pink were a color combo that matched. Maybe it's just me. ![Chat Icon](c/19.gif)

Re: Nursery decor help...
I think that a white crib and some really feminine accents would totally work! I love the chandelier idea too. When I was born my room had a blue rug, white walls, and the only pink was the floor molding.

I love blue and pale yellow for a girl. I think you can totally keep the blue.
If you look at the Serina and Lily site, they show a lot of blue for baby girl bedding. They're crazy expensive, but maybe you can get some inspiration!
I think if you go with white furniture (or antiqued white ) and add a chandelier or something--it will easily look more feminine.

If you don't want to paint, what about wall decals? A rug? Window treatments? Changing out your ceiling fan? You can incorporate girly accents into the room and it'll be beautiful!

Re: Nursery decor help...
You can totally make this work! Accessorize with all white furniture if you can. Paint up that window moulding to white also.. that wood finish kind of gives it a nautical feel the way it is now imo. And like PP show, use some paint or decals and get some girly theme in there. Will be gorgeous!!!!
ETA: I feel your pain, my husband would also not want to repaint!!
