Previous owners mail

what do you do when you keep getting mail for the previous owners? we've been here almost 2 years and i'm still getting their mail. and not just junk. today i got what looks like credit cards. i get all kinds of important looking mail. i know their mail was forwarded for a while, but i think it expires after a year and apparently they never updated their address with anyone. i understand that junk mail will keep coming, but don't you think you would let your credit card company know your new address? what am i supposed to do with this stuff?

Also - you could write "return to sender" and drop it in the mail. maybe people will start getting the hint.

Re: Previous owners mail

We've just recently starting receiving the previous owners mail, I guess their forwarding expired. Some of the stuff coming through has looked important (bills, etc...) so I just write "moved" on the front and leave it for the mail carrier.

Re: Previous owners mail

I throw it all away. We have been in the house for almost 4 years now...if anything is important it would be going to their new address anyway.

Re: Previous owners mail

For junk mail I just shred it but for things that look important I circle the return address and write: Return to sender/Addressee moved 2001.

We get so much for them 5 years later that it concerns me when we move. Although, we moved from DH's parent's house in 2001 and they don't get any mail for us anymore.

Re: Previous owners mail

Everything goes in the garbage at this point after 1.5 yrs you would think they would let the car ins company know or motor vehicle, I actually got plates for his new motorcycle set here (those wrote moved on and sent back). Bank statements and stuff like that garbage. Sorry but there really is no excuse for that I moved from my parents and they dont get any of my mail anymore. Same thing with DH he doesnt get any mail at his mothers.

I let the mail collect for about a month and then write moved and give it all back to the mailman.

After I moved, I stopped getting mail at my mothers within a month!

We are still getting their mail too! Today we got his new AMEX card. Luckily their daughter lives on the next block and has a little girl the same age as my daughter so I see her often. I throw out junk but if it looks important I give it to her.

Re: Previous owners mail

for the longest time after I moved into my apt I did the right thing - I put a rubber band around a bunch of the mail and left it in the mailbox with a note "doesn't live here anymore" or something like that. after a while I got sick of it and just tossed it.

Re: Previous owners mail

I was writing return to sender, not at this address and the mailman told me that I could throw out the junk mail, but that he would take care of the first class mail.
