Higher prices and few flights may not be the only “downfall” of Long Island’s ONLY community airport. In Fact, MacArthur Airport was recently slated for examination by the Federal Aviation Administration with regards to safety concerns that have begun to plague the facility.
And, Senator Charles Shumer contacted several local officials about the issue apparently stemming from problems with an imperfect apron.
The “problem” noted as just outside Gated 5-8 at the Southwest Airlines terminal, are feared to pose potential safety dangers to aircrafts using that gate and area.
And, according to Southwest Airline officials, the company has been airing grievances about broken and cracked concrete on the apron since 2004 suggesting that the debris could pose a serious hazard to the aircrafts.
