Soon, it seems there will be even more places for the entire family to have fun on Long Island.
In fact, the governor of New York, Gov. George Pataki has revealed the vision for one of the areas newest state parks, the Jamesport State Park and Preserve on the North Fork.
And, the $4 million project will receive additional assistance from Senator Ken LaValle (R-Port Jefferson), via a $1 million contribution that will fund a visitor and educational center.
The remainder of the funding will be generated from monies acquired from the sale of 300 acres of neighboring agricultural lands that were previously sanctioned among farmers and that, according to officials, will continue to be protected as farmland.
The park and preserve will include about a mile of access to the beachfront along the Long Island Sound, a multipurpose visitor center and environmentally suitable and friendly exhibits. The park will also feature hiking, nature walks, and bird watching in specially designated areas.
And, official suggest that it will allow adults and children alike to gain information and an education about their environment and issues that pertain to it.
They hope to have the project under way by this time next year.
