Remember your high school days when you loitered around convenience stores in hopes of finding some “compassionate” or should we say gullible soul to purchase some alcohol for you?
Well, I bet you never thought of involving the cops in your excursion. But, some youngsters did and now a Suffolk police office faces several charges for buying beer for three underage teens.
The 27 year-old, an officer in the Fourth Precinct in Hauppauge was arrested in connection with buying beer for two 15-year-olds and a 16 –year-old along Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square on November 28th.
Authorities cite this negligent act as being one of extreme irresponsibility and note that they remain perplexed about what the officer could have been thinking.
The officer, who has been on the force for five years, could not be reached for comment. However, prior to this (isolated) incident his record was clean. Still, he has currently been suspended without pay and awaits facing six administrative charges in front of a hearing officer or an independent arbitrator.
According to officials the officer knew one of the youths through his parents. Regardless, if found guilty of the misdemeanor, he could face up to a year in prison.
