If you thought you were the only one counting calories, you’re wrong. In fact, how much you “eat” is on the menu for at least one Nassau County official who want restaurants to post calorie counts of each of their meals, a measure that was recently scaled back to apply only to those eateries which are already tracking the information.
However, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi has recommended making it a requirement for restaurants to feature calorie labeling and to ban trans fats in their cooking.
And, while most could agree on the ban on trans fats, it’s the labeling of calories that remains the point of contention and is up for further consideration and voting.
Plus, there are concerns about how officials will enforce the measures. But, the Nassau County Executive notes his main concern as being to ensure that people (Long Islanders) live healthy lives.
