Some local residents may be in for some more culture here on Long Island, but at what cost. Well, apparently the cultural arts center will be costing resident $2-million dollars. A cost that was initially expected to be incurred by the developer.
According to recent “plans”, the developer will draft the “core” or “shell” of the new enter, then hand the project over to the village or a private contractor who is expected to take on the rest of the cost.
Furthermore, the initial development company is anticipated to spend no more than just over $4-million dollars on the construction and receive a credit for that amount, which is a “fraction” of the $7.5 million that’s anticipated to cover the cost for village land.
And, that amount will no even come close to the final cost of the center, with experts adding that the additional cost for the second phase has not yet been determined.
The deal calls for the village having the option of erecting the new center behind Village Hall rather than in the currently designated are, a location that is seriously being considered especially since the village is also looking at plans to construct a new municipal facility that would serve as home to the library and village offices. However final approval will come as a result of a vote by the Board of Trustees.
