As members of what was traditionally known as a fairly safe suburban community, it’s no surprise that most of us are both alarmed and disturbed by the reports of escalating crime here on Long Island. And, for many the thought of sex offenders and others out and living among us was especially discomforting. Now, in addition to Megan’s law, the Suffolk County division of Crime Stoppers is gearing its focus toward a magazine featuring and profiling “Most Wanted” fugitives and local crime alerts.
The magazine, according to officials will be financed by advertisers and will be available throughout Long Island at approximately 200 local business establishments and locations. And, authorities plan on distributing 25,000 copies each month.
The publications, titled Fugitive Finders will be offered free of charge and will also be available online at www.lifugitivefinders.com.
Authorities remain confident that this new approach to curbing crime and bringing criminals to justice will be a positive one. And, they remain optimistic that it will help restore our neighborhoods and clean up our streets.
