Long Island, noted for its shrubs, trees and fragrant florals has always been know for being extremely green, and now it may be getting a little (environmentally) greener.
Local officials are collaborating with area politicians and leader in the latest movement for renewable energy, a project slated at $15.8 million.
In fact, it is their objective to strive for making Long Island the next leader in the environmental movement; and among their (initial) efforts will be to replace all the nation’s 250,000 garbage trucks to hybrid models, a switch that’s expected to cost $2.5 billion, and amount they note is spent weekly on the war.
Still, the measure remains pending until it gets approval by the Senate and a signature by the President. Once all the I’s are dotted and the T’s crossed, funds will be allocated by the Clean Cities Coalition across the nation. And, the local Long Island chapter would fund the project for local municipalities.
