Do you ever feel like there’s little or no privacy left in the world. Well, your “privacy” may be getting infringed upon once again, though not necessarily for a “bad” reason. In fact, it's actually for your, and your family’s protection.
Nassau County officials are calling for red-light cameras to be set up at 50 dangerous intersections across the county.
This comes on the tails of similar measure in New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle and approximately 200 other communities that rely on cameras to crack down on those who run red lights and pose a threat to others.
The cameras, like those already installed, would snap a photo of the license plate of those drivers who run red lights and then a summons will be mailed to their home.
However, much like the $2 a pack county cigarette tax, the new measure will require legislative approval from the state Assembly and state Senate before it can officially be implemented.
But officials (in favor of the measure) note that even if the measure itself is not passed, simply discussing the “danger zones” will help address the problem. They even go on to note that at one California intersection, the number of accidents with injuries was reduced by almost 30 percent by focusing attention on the area and the issue.
