Let Us Entertain You: Local University Gets Grant Toward Arts, Entertainment, And Culture.

We all know that if you want to make it in the entertainment industry, the place you need to be is either in Hollywood or The Big Apple, and these locations are the best locations for formal instruction and training as well.

But, that may soon be about to change, at least for aspiring entertainers from Long Island.

Now, Long Island may be adding another state-of-the-art performing arts center to it’s list of attraction.

According to officials, Adelphi University received the largest public grant noted in history from the state, $5 million to be used toward building a $30 million top-of-the line performing arts facility, and part of the university’s three-year expansion project announced earlier.

According to the university president, they college asked for state help because of the phenomenal impact they foresee on the local economy.

The university anticipates financing the rest of the $113 million project via a $42 million loan, $50 million via fundraising efforts and $20 million via previously collected university funds.

They (university officials) note that the state continues to express and interest in the university due to the notable progress it has made including a growth from $48 to $90 million of the university’s endowment fun in just five years.

And, they also have the support of local government that also sees the measure as a means for an economic boom.

The expansion project will include the construction of a 53,000-square-foot performing arts center and a 76,00 square-foot recreation and sports center as well as renovations to the gymnasium, Woodruff Hall; relocation of Stile Field, the outdoor sports stadium; and replacement of the Child Activity Center on campus.
